Sony will keep making smartphones for multiple years to come, Qualcomm reveals

The two companies have renewed their partnership.

I guess Sony using their phones, much like Google, as a testing platform for their technologies, as well as some form of integration with their other technologies (eg:- their cinema like features). This seems almost great in so many ways, except Sony doesn't do it smoothly enough. Like having mutli-frame HDR for video, having same or similar pixel sizes so that moving between various cameras is smoother, their cinema UI (App) is not ideal for smartphones, and there are so many unnecessary small glitches. Not sure what the dual layer pixel has contributed in terms of video quality, but for photo quality it doesn't seem sufficient, especially without better HDR.

Sony does many things great. And many things are just incomplete projects.

rizki1, 23 Jun 2023And will always use SD695 for 10 series 🤣 Because Qualcomm ... moreNot when they axed their last global low-end series, the L series, with L4 around 2 years ago, and their Average Selling Price per unit of Xperia is now at $1.000+, meaning at Xperia 1 series pricing territories. Their current low-end series, the Xperia Ace, has been exclusive in Japan for 4 years now, and we don't know if the Xperia Ace IV will eventually go global or not.

Sensational news. I only buy Japanese brand electronics products including Panasonic, Sony etc. and I support Sony, the only brand for mobiles in Europe.
Next week the 1 V and I would go to the Pro series only if the screen gets bigger than the 1 series.

Anonymous, 23 Jun 2023Nice joke you made, you have a comment quality of 13 years ... moreSamsung leaving the Smartphone market doesn't mean they'll stop supplying parts to other companies. Their camera sales % has been dropping a lot in the past couple of years, so it's not going to be a big deal if they stop selling those. Their chipsets aren't that good either; so they'll hardly be missed. The rest are really good, but as I said ; withdrawing from smartphone production doesn't imply stopping the production of smartphone parts. The production of those parts isn't done by the mobile division.

Samsung leaving smartphone industry = production of smartphone is equal zero and multi millions unemployed people worldwide, or equal to world collapsing.

Never forget that "almost" every smartphone brand are using samsung parts and patents, from phone screen (include foldable screen) , camera sensor, chipset, phone storage+RAM, waterdrop foldable hinge, etc.

And will always use SD695 for 10 series 🤣 Because Qualcomm has a lot of stock for them. Their mid range are awful compared to Samsung and Chinese.

It's time to bring back the low end, give it good marketing, sell it in a country like Africa or Asia.. and maybe get 10 million sold per year.

They keep making these tall phones for years now & they refuse to change..

Still the only phone that is a tool and not a "phone that does everything without you lifting a finger". I've heard a lot of people in many platforms saying their phones are boring, be it, iPhones, Samsung or the Chinese brands. The only two phones I find fun nowadays is either Sony with Pro cameras and Nothing Phone with LEDs. And no. Vivo's and Tecno's UV back panel is useless at best.

Of course Sony is as expensive as iPhone 14 Pro and Samsung ($999 only applies to less than 10 countries) and their software support are yesteryears behind. But unless you are paranoid of the Illuminati, it's not the end of the world.

I'd rather have an extra year of OS updates too if it means getting every last feature that exists since phones become pocketable.

Did Sony just say "We are always listening to our consumers" lol. Really Sony? if you did you would sell more phones. With that said, let's see the cutting edge technology that you speak of featured in the Xperia Pro II. Being a Pro, nothing should be spared, being Sony nothing else should outshine it. Not holding my breath but very interested to see what comes next.

Time for some popcorn for the comment section.

The people who keep saying "nobody buys their smartphones" are just wrong. They've said the same thing for years now, but still on that copium.
