If Sony would make phones with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, I would consider getting one. The Xperia 1 Mk V is too tall.

Anonymous, 23 Jun 2023Nice joke you made, you have a comment quality of 13 years ... moreNever forget, that Samsung itself is just a gigantic parent company, that includes many separate businesses, like Samsung Display, Samsung Telecommunications, Samsung Semiconductor and many more. If one of them is shut down, the others will be kept working, unless they choose otherwise.

you have to suffer, 23 Jun 2023keep making smartphones, and spend more on advertising. ju... moreWhy would they drop prices and with what would that help in their business? They are not the chinese company that does a copy paste to some hardware, this guys are actually Designing and here and there innovating their own stuff, a sony device costs more to produce then any crapware outta china, so why would they drop prices? Just so, for another ungrateful wannabe that does not have enough and wants more and more and cheap and cheaper? I am glad they do not do that and remaining a respectfull company.

That is nothing, but great news. Thank you Sony for not giving up!

They sell very well in Japan an those parts, also in some parts of europe, So why not? Is not like one needs to sell 3 billion devices to survive. All they need to do is reduce production, therefore costs, therefore to align with their revenue.

                Low sales =/= loss.

That's like saying Maserati has low sales numbers compared to Chevrolet or Ford. Profit is more indicative of success, not total sales.

Sony used to make some incredible devices. But with the worst thermal control and lack of software updates.

"well received" ... but then people started using it. Qualcomm should tell Sony to fix carrier support, GPS, and overheating because it's making MediaTek phones look superior.

Their only strategy to keep in line with their multimedia division when they were ousted from the 16:9 standard they have been keeping for years? Move to industry standard 21:9 in 2019 and keep their phones notchless to be in line with their multimedia division, except for the L series and Ace Series.

just drop the price down of the unit, improve and optimize the software. then it would be a good buy.

The Xperia Pro-I was unveiled on 26 October 2021 and available on 2 December 2021 (37 days; 1 month, 7 days) and the Xperia 1 IV released on 11 May 2022 and available on 11 June 2022 (US got in September, though). 5 IV was even faster, announced on 1 September 2022, released on 22 September 2022.

The Xperia 1 V is admittedly slower, but it's still released in late June for Europe (1 month, 19 days) and 28 July for US (1 month+ faster than the 1 IV in the USA).

Anonymous, 23 Jun 2023So, their low sales numbers are wrong? Or, maybe they just ... moreAs long as Sony needs Xperia for their telecommunications technologies that they currently have inside Xperia for other divisions (5G, etc.), Sony Alpha needs Xperia as their extension hand for technology transfer and integration between them (as an external monitor, testing bed for new sensors (look at the Exmor T sensor in the new Xperia 1 V), integration of tech, and transfer from bigger Alpha to smaller Xperia), and Sony has bigger divisions that are able to generate profits to keep them running (Banking & Services, Gaming, Semiconductor, etc.), Sony probably keeps Xperia around for more years as their side projects. I mean, Sony's Business-to-Business projects are far more profitable than Business-to-Consumer projects. Just look at Apple Vision Pro; Apple ordered Sony's camera sensors and display for its Vision Pro, or camera sensor for Apple iPhones, so Sony's Business-to-Consumer division is for mostly proof-of-concept projects.
