Where is Snapdragon 6 Gen 1? Because that's the chip which should get to the market sooner, but where is it then? Nowhere. That's not just Sony's fault.
Chip shortage and disorted chain suply are the main factors, but also keep in mind that Xperia lines of phones are being made with low numbers sales in mind, so naturally they can't get any disscounts on their orders like their competitors can, which is one of the reasons why are they so god damn expensive.

I love OneUI, but if Samsung doesn't bring back the SD card slot & the 3.5mm jack on it's high-end line-up (or at least on the Note or FE), I'll be switching to Sony for my next phone.
I love the SD card slot more than any brand.
My 1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro SD card needs a new home.

Imx888 (now called LYT800) is more light sensitive (way more) than imx789/789y that has same size. Also, uses less power. The purpose of this tech.
To allow sensors to match performance of larger sensors. A future dual layer 1/2.9" will match regular 1/2". Dual layer 1/2" will match single layer 1/1.56".
If you knew about photo, you would see benefits.

Sony does not need to rely on sub-$400 phones. They just have them.

I'm into six months of Sony ownership with my Xperia 1 iv after I sold off my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and I couldn't be any happier with my new Sony phone. I really cannot wait to see the future of Sony phones, especially for camera hardware.

So much for "Sony is dead". However, I think that Sony can give better support for software updates. I'm still happy with two OS updates, but I welcome three OS updates on the Xperia 1/5 series and four OS updates for the Xperia Pro models.
