Getting interesting as the IV take was exactly the same as 1 but smaller (inferior display....but you get the idea). Now they are reducing the cameras as well so it leaves how drastically they will change other hardware as well .
Hmm maybe they are lovering the price for more wallet friendly as well as the 5 IV cost an fortune, meanin that it pretty much the same as the 1 IV.

ingramli, 24 Jul 2023price for 1 series aside, you need to think about the price... moreBoM of 5iv is surely way above $400.
8g1 was at least $100.
Poor heating system of mark 3 and 4 were cost cut to keep BoM from going near $600.
Do you really think sony can get SoC for same price samsung pays when samsung orders 30x more units?

Anonymous, 24 Jul 2023I totally doubt it's real. It could be a fan made vide... moreThat PV is too high quality for a fan made video. Also, the PV demonstrated a strong understanding of the japanese culture, and Sony's ideology (there are plenty of messages delivered in the less than 50 seconds PV, such as the single hand capable control phone size, the elegance of it holding in hand, the connectivity of headphone jack, demonstrated by the model with the background music), without a doubt this video was carefully designed to boost sales. Is it impossible to make such a high quality fake video? Not really, but who on earth would spend that much money to create it at the first place?

DarlingYext, 24 Jul 2023"What makes phone compact for you ? the screen size or... moreWhat the heck is Ace III Compact 5G ??? I cant find any Sony phones with this name and with 5G from this site. There are Xperia 1, 5, 10 and Pro
with 4 to 5 generations in a row.
And none of them are compact phones or small in size as if they are then all the phones in the market as of now can be said are all compact phones even phones with 6.7 inch screens
There are only Samsung S22 and 23 with also Apple iphone 14 that can be said are small phones and flagships. And these are only 4mm wider then Sony phones while 1cm shorter then Sony phones with same size screens as the diagonal

The video making doesn't look fake, but a 5 V having fewer cameras than the 10 V is too weird to be true, unless both lens are of variable focal length (say wide equivalent to 0.7x-3x and Tele equivalent to 3x-5.2x), but such advancement even exceeding the 1 V also looks weird

Removing the tele lense makes a 1000€ phone (maybe they drop the price to 900€) comparable to a pixel 7a and nothing phone(2) IF you aren't a hardcore Sony-Fanboy (or girl).
IF Sony ever wants to gain back marketshare, they have to drop their price to 750€ for this phone. But Sony appears not to care about marketshare anymore. We will see how feascinated their niche-peargroup will be by this - IF it is real that is. Not every leaked photo or video is the real deal, we all know that.

DarlingYext, 24 Jul 2023They removed the telephoto or the ultrawide!
I'm s... moreWell, I'm scared too honestly, mate. They should have keep the 60mm telephoto of 5 IV or 70mm telephoto of 5 II if they need to differentiate from their Ultimate series, the 1 series.
Btw, Do you mean the upcoming Xperia 10 Mark VI for the fourth sentence, right? Because Xperia 10 Mark V already released with its triple cams in May that has been staple since 10 II and the next release will be the Mark VI that the renders haven't be released yet, but I do have the concern the telephoto gonna be axed from 10 VI, meaning the telephoto is reserved for Xperia 1 and Pro series afterwards 😨

Anonymous, 24 Jul 20231v is same price of 1iv. 8g2 does not cost $100 more than... moreprice for 1 series aside, you need to think about the price of the SoC to the final price of the phone this way, taking iPhone as an example, if I recalled my memory correct, it was revealed couple of years ago, the cost of the parts the phone consisted of is roughly 50% of the selling price of the phone itself, in other words, if the SoC cost $100 more, other parts remain unchanged, the price of the phone has to go up for $200 to maintain the 50% profit margin.

rosesarerosie, 24 Jul 2023If they removed the telephoto, then they should remove 100-... moreI believe they will reduce the price 100-200$ for the camera gone....but on the same time, they will charge 100-200$ more for the 8 gen 2 SoC, just like what they did with the 1V (we all know 8 gen 2 has a significantly higher price tag than previous Snapdragon flagships, and Sony need to charge even more than its price alone, to maintain the gross profit margin %), so expect the two things will offset each other with no big change in the final price ;-)

Anonymous, 24 Jul 2023People here do not realize 19:9 and 20:9 are why many phone... moreThe reason why phones are so heavy is because they suddenly moved from 3000 mAh to 5000 mAh batteries as they went from 5.5 inch to 6.5 inch displays. One could say that the 19:9 and taller aspect ratios are the cause of that. However, it would also be possible to make smaller phones like in the 5.7 inch range. It would just as well be possible to make phones with 4000 mAh batteries.
Battery density slightly increases over time as technology progresses. A 5000 mAh takes up less space and weighs less than one from 2 years ago. The problem is these rather slow battery technology improvements (maybe 5% per year) could not keep up with the sudden move from 3000 to 5000 mAh in a matter of 2-3 years.
Even if manufacturers won’t make smaller phones again, if they at least keep the battery size at 5000 mAh instead of increasing it further (and if they don’t make huge camera sensor/optics size upgrades every year), there is at least a chance for phones to become lighter again. And I have started to see this trend this year.
It‘s similar with electric cars. Most density improvements have been used to close in on ICE ranges and to make heavy SUVs. If EV manufacturers focused more on sedans and compact hatchbacks, and if they set their goal range to „300 miles“ instead of „as long as possible“, they could leverage battery density improvements. A 5% smaller/lighter battery at same capacity not only means a 5% saving in overall weight. Because the car is lighter, it needs less electricity to move the vehicle and thus would only need a slightly smaller capacity battery to achieve the same 300 miles range. That could, for example, mean a 6% or 7% reduction in weight. Now if smartphones focused on keeping the same camera size and performance, and only used the efficiency improvements of components, they would also only need a slightly smaller capacity, on top of the density improvements of the battery itself. But I don’t see that happening because people’s demands for smartphone functionality are still increasing.

rosesarerosie, 24 Jul 2023If they removed the telephoto, then they should remove 100-... more$600 max. And that's if it supports all network features (VoLTE, wifi calling, etc.) on all major carriers. They can add another $50-100 if it supports mmwave, but it would be the first 5 series to do so. Xperia 5 is a terrible value proposition, if only they offered the 10 series in my market.
