Weekly poll: how do you feel about Apple's impending transition from Lightning to USB-C?

06 August 2023
The USB-C port is already the default on Macs and iPads, but a lot of accessories (for both Macs and iPhones) still rely on Lightning. What will happen to them?

Anonymous, 06 Aug 2023Yeah you know how evil they are. Evil? Security and safety is not evil.

Can't wait to see "Apple certified type C" cables on the market. Any other cable will have a capped charging speed and not be able to transfer data

After Android phone makers removed the sdcard I feel I will buy an iPhone. With over 8 years of software updates,usb-C, and stability I can give up side loaded apps and buy an iPhone.

Its Milan, 06 Aug 2023You mean "I don't care" option 😂Yeah something like that. But I prefer to use "Neutral" as it sounds not aggressive. Don't get me wrong, I own an iPhone and use it as my daily drive together with my other Android phone.

It really won't make a difference as am 1000% sure apple won't allow you to charge their devices with other charging bricks like most Androids let you, so you'll still have to buy the apple brick and the apple cable.

They should go to USB4 instead. E-waste is on Apple not us customers, the slower the transition the more e+waste.

I didn't vote. I have a different opinion. It will not matter, because most likely it will be restricted in functionality. I don't thing they will allow accessing the internal memory using the USB port. As for the use as a charging port, that, really doesn't matter.

iPad and MacBook has long adopted USB-C, so there's no reason for iPhone not to get USB-C. The only reason Apple resist it for long is because of MFi programme.

[deleted post]But Apple was the first to bring USB C in (in MacBook) then why not standardize in all of their product.

Truly speaking lightning port has much reliable and better design as compared to USB C.
Apple should have implemented better bandwidth and power capabilities of lightning port much earlier so they can argue in EU that by implementing this change it will be a downgrade.

But because of Apple's greed they now have to implement USB C even if they don't want it.

They thought by keeping lightning port crippled will force the user to user iCloud more for storage and not their local system for backups etc. But they failed to understand what was coming.

[deleted post]MacBooks already got USB-C a year before it became standard on Android smartphones. I find it weird MacBooks and iPads got USB-C way before iPhones did. Apple was one of the early supporters of USB-C.
