Weekly poll: how do you feel about Apple's impending transition from Lightning to USB-C?

06 August 2023
The USB-C port is already the default on Macs and iPads, but a lot of accessories (for both Macs and iPhones) still rely on Lightning. What will happen to them?

Did you know that those are already available? And I have like two of them.

Compare that to the Chinese who are doing their own thing (super VOOC whatever, various proprietary wireless charging, etc). Meanwhile, even current iPhones with lightning do support USB-PD for fast charging, ie all you need is a USB-PD compliant charger, and the USB-C to lightning cable can fast-charge the iPhone.

As bad Apple is, at least they're adhering to USB-PD for their fast charging. Meanwhile, each Chinese OEM has their own thing that use effin USB-A on the charger end.

Well not an Apple fan but if i would have to wait hours to charge my device via lightning i would be withered long time before device will charges.
There is nothing worse than when your device suddenly gets out of joice in middle of a day and you have to wait many hours to charge when you are in hurry or rush.
150W should be bare minimum for any phone, tablet or any other EV device working on batteries, like cars, shawers etc.
Faster is always better and if ligntning conector cant get a 150W charging speeds USB C will get.
Other thing is whether apple will use or will skip this technology,

Apple's M1 processor chip has been found to have an unpatchable hardware vulnerability that could allow attackers to bypass security mechanisms, according to MIT researchers. The vulnerability relates to the M1 chip's pointer authentication, which detects and guards against unexpected changes to pointers in memory.

Another reason to keep the headphone jack. It's a universal standard. Removing the jack is an anti-consumer decision and the people who defend it are pathetic

“ they can share or borrow such cables from their Android and Windows using friends”
                                    False.
Most Windows laptops still include the traditional barrel charger, despite the laptop being chargeable through USB-C.
As for Android, many Chinese OEMs use proprietary fast charging instead of USB-PD, so the cable that they included are not necessarily USB-PD compliant, as such will charge iPhones slow.

Although having a standard connector USB-C is a good thing, finding actual cable that is both USB3 and USB-PD compliant is not easy. It’s really a mess.

The end of one of Apple's money grabbing proprietary schemes. Thrilled.
