rizki1, 29 Aug 2023Yes, this is why non-Chinese phones fell... and people here... moreThey do.

LG used to sell many G series. Then sales of G and V became too low, ppl were basically only buying K phones.
LG was losing $ 1 billion /year.

Do you think Apple would still make almost 200 billion dollars by selling iphones if there was a sub-$250 iphone?
Obviously not, it would easily be most sold iphone and revenue would drop a lot.

        Oh dear.

If the report was for real, Steve Burke of Gamers Nexus is laughing so hard at Asus' incompetence.

The fake news ended up being fake??! No way??!?!?!

Honestly I knew Asus wouldn't suddenly just discontinue the Zenfone series like that and focus on their... gaming phones.

If so, why Asus, Sony and others are not able to open a store, service center or whatnot in my city?

rizki1, 29 Aug 2023Yes, this is why non-Chinese phones fell... and people here... moreFlagships do get more profit. There’s a reason all those Chinese are trying to sell $1000 phones as well. Revenue and profit are two different things. The Chinese may get a ton of revenue in selling a boatload of cheap phones, but they have ultra thin margins. Majority of profits in smartphone market goes to Apple, and then Samsung. The rest only got the crumbs.

There’s a reason Sony is still alive as well, they went to ultra premium niche. Low sales, but at least there are more margins.

Last time I checked Samsung and Apple were the highest selling iOS and Android phone companies. Samsung actually sells the most smartphones annually. Okay so again, who fell ?

I wrote this when the original article came out,
Clearly given my comments I should have waited as then

"Hopefully (has to) Asus will come out and make a definitive statement as it has only just launched the ZenFone 10, which the announcement could affect sale.

Maybe sales were impacted by the close release dates, and / or having gaming (flagship) specs near duplicated in a your compact flagship flagship phone ? "

Asus is a very weird company. First they killed their bestseller Max Pro series and now this.

if they do not discontinue their Zenfone segments, i would be happy for my pocket size

Again, the Chinese had cleaned out LG, HTC, Sony, Nokia, etc. Samsung is the only one strong enough to compete at the low end thanks to their profits. Asus is not comparable. The only way to go is to do what Sony did, go high end niche route, which is what Asus seems to be doing, going into gaming phone niche with their ROG brand.

Nobody can compete with the Chinese on low end commodity products.
