Rumor: Oppo will replace your smartphone's battery for free within four years of purchase

13 September 2023
There is of course a caveat - you're not getting unlimited free replacements.

L.O.R.D, 14 Sep 2023So there is one smartphone company that will replace batter... moreDon't get too optimistic. This is just a rumor, only for China, and only for 1 phone model.
I have a feeling this is something of an additional service for a fee, ie an extended warranty kinda thing.

That's not what European Union said, we want easy removable battery.

This is actually a very welcome move and one that I'd love to see expand globally and embraced by other smartphone manufacturers. I recently got the battery on an older Redmi device replaced to fix some issues and the difference compared to the older, worn out battery was night and day.

Honestly, I'd be willing to consider buying an Oppo device if this comes to pass for all models. Perhaps this encourages other smartphone makers to follow suit. I sure miss the days of slidable, removable back panels.

Anonymous, 14 Sep 2023Unlike iPhone 14 users who are losing 10%+ battery capacity... moreYes I heard about it. It's all over X where users are complaining about their iPhone 14 losing health at significantly high rate. Even 13 series having the same issues

But in reality, all iphones have been lately losing it at much faster than other phones. This obviously hints towards apple trying to make batteries their another cash cow, since they're expert on downgrading the phones via ota updates

Idk how people manage to kill their batteries so quickly. I've never had a phone, that I had since new, degrade more than like 2 to 5%. And it's not like I baby my phones. I'm no "only charge up to 80%, no charging overnight, no fast charging, etc" person. I sometimes drain my phones down to 1% battery, charge them for like 5 minutes, use them again, and repeat the process. Which, according to the internet, should be horrible for batteries.

My LG V30 that I still use is several years old, yet dies at 2-3%.

Last year OnePlus ran a comprehensive battery replacement program where where they replaced batteries for free, it was for certain Asian countries probably and for certain older phones
They replaced my phone battery for free. All I was required to pay was labour (about $6)

Anonymous, 14 Sep 2023Good idea or just make a battery back door, just before all... moreApple has already started this. They raised replacement prices earlier this year and it's $99 plus tax. Interestingly the 14 serie phones have been losing health at an alarming rate
It's their latest scam to extract money out of their buyers

So there is one smartphone company that will replace battery for free after nearly 4 years, and there is another, that will ask for an obscene amount of cash when their 'planned' battery is below 80 percent in just 2 years after purchase 🍎

If this were true, then it's quite generous, especially if there's no extra fee/extended warranty needed. Even Apple only guarantee 80% for 2 years.
Of course, the question is, will Oppo users keep their phones for that long to begin with.

.alpha, 14 Sep 2023So many people still believe Apple's lie that battery ... moreSure, because those are the same. Maybe you will want to run your phone using a combustion engine next, because filling up with gas is much faster than any fast charging.

So many people still believe Apple's lie that battery tech is still where it was 15 years ago. We now have EVs that can charge from 20 -> 80% in 30 minutes yet people still think it should take 2 hours to charge their phone.

People are driving around on top of a huge battery bank yet Apple fanbois still think charging phone is dangerous

I'd rather have them selling the replacement battery instead. Safer and can be done in most repair shops + they can make profit out of it.

hmm, 14 Sep 2023They should give the extra battery in the box so when the t... moreBatteries die when not being used....

They should give the extra battery in the box so when the time comes to change the battery then you have it and dont need to search for one and then order and then wait for it to ship and then send to repair as change battery. Or just send the phone to there support and go trough that process to get battery changed if something happens in that 4 years.

I dont see any problems that these batteries dont last for 4 years or something. It's just a marketing trick to fool customers to think that the battery is more quality while batteries anyways last for 4 years no major degrading

Oppo may realize the bad effect of ultra super duper fast charging, and affraid to lose its customer by promising something like this.

Ultra super duper fast charging = decrease battery health faster.

All chinese phone companies must give free unlimited battery replacement in the first 5 years of use.

Anonymous, 14 Sep 2023Example to you : Phone A supports 100W. You get two units... moreThe longest I have had a phone is 8 months or less and I bought a new one!! So that battery degradation problem does not apply to me, even with 600w ultra-fast charging it will never degrade in my hands hahaha.

I prefer EU's method of easier to replace batteries. They pushed Apple to finally use USB-C on iPhones.

                                      1 model in 1 country,big deal.

Anonymous, 14 Sep 2023Worse of all, brands that advertise speed their phones do ... moreGoing by the advertised time it will take to charge up a phone makes more sense than going by the advertised charging speed.

The advertised time it takes to charge up a phone I have, for example an iQOO 5 Pro with 120W, would be 15 minutes, which is accurate, that's how much time it takes. Another example, as I also have an Infinix Zero Ultra, which is advertised to be able to charge up in 12 minutes with the included 180W charger, which I also found accurate, it takes anywhere between 10 and 15 minutes to fully charge that phone. ( Important to note that the iQOO only has a 4000mAh battery, whereas the Infinix has 4500mAh. )

Going by the advertised charging speed doesn't make sense, because if a phone would constantly be charging at 120W or 180W, or whatever amount of really fast charging, it would destroy the battery likely in a couple of days (or maybe even at the first usage), let alone years of usage.

In my opinion, anything above 120W is overkill, but anything below 65W is just simply too slow.
