Why can't they come up with a new lightweight masterpiece that was the Note 10, with 6.3 screen and 158grams weight, including the s-pen? I just don't get it.

While they are at it, they should ditch that pointless 200MP camera and switch 1"-type sensor. Preferably 24MP, Bayer.

Get rid of 8K and instead offer oversampled 4K and oversampled 1080p (from 4K).

Add and big sensor for ultrawide. Maybe 1/1.12.

And work on continuous zoom camera module.

LosEstupido, 19 Sep 2023love how samsung right after Apple announced the iPhone 15 ... more"I just hope the 50MP Telephoto Camera on the S24 Ultra Delivers the same, if not similar quality to the 10MP Periscope on the S23 Ultra"
As I explained, it could be actually superior as it gives you more megapixels at 240mm (just like the Pixel 7 Pro, which outperforms the S23 Ultra regarding distant non-moving objects at 360mm, when Google's short Night Sight mode is used).

This might be the end of me been in support of Samsung Galaxy, they are so obsessed in coping iPhone. Once Samsung stop offering 10x zoom other android smartphone makers will capitalise on 10x zoom.

Furthermore, I want to add that the periscope camera of the Pixel 7 Pro gives you more(!) pixels per distant object and this might explain why the periscope camera of the 7 Pro is slightly superior regarding distant non-moving objects (when the short Night Sight mode is used).
The 7 Pro gives you 11.4 megapixels at 240mm whereas Samsung's 230mm camera gives you approximately 9.2 megapixels at 240mm.
If Samsung makes a 50 megapixel 115mm camera, it will give you approximately 11.5 megapixels at 240mm.
Yes, a Quad Bayer color filter array is often worse than a Bayer array regarding resolution, but when lenses are soft at pixel level (for example due to diffraction, and that's the case for such tele cameras currently), then the difference between Quad Bayer array and Bayer array might be neglectable because the sensor nearly outresolves the lens. This might be the reason why the Quad Bayer periscope camera of the 7 Pro has no Quad Bayer artifacts at 10x whereas there are Quad Bayer artifacts at 2x.

TheLastOracle, 19 Sep 2023A 5x zoom could be a good replacement for the 10x zoom, if ... moreWhat they need to improve is that 10 mp 3x abomination.
Make that 50 mp 1/2.52 sized and leave the 10 mp 10x periscope alone.

This would make sense because I recently compared the periscope camera of my Pixel 7 Pro with the S23 Ultra in a store.
I took photos of distant objects at 360mm (approximately 15x) because Google's image processing is very bad between 20x and 30x (a 2x crop from a 15x photo is often better than a 30x photo) and because Samsung's S23 Ultra can produce fake details due to machine learning at 30x.
I also used Google's short Night Sight mode because this makes the periscope camera deliver more detail.

This is usually not tested in reviews and the result was that the Pixel 7 Pro was definitely a tiny bit better than the S23 Ultra regarding distant objects.

I also tried turning on Samsung's night mode (which is only available at 10x), but distant objects still looked a tiny bit worse.

But note that I tested multiple Pixel 7 Pro units when I bought the 7 Pro and the image quality as well as the image stabilization of the periscope camera varies. That's another thing that isn't tested by reviews. Also note that Night Sight likely won't work so well with for example flying birds and no 3rd party app can capture single frame raw files with the Pixel 7 Pro's periscope camera.

A 5x zoom could be a good replacement for the 10x zoom, if the lens is much brighter and the pixels are much larger. Samsung needs to work on larger pixels and brighter lenses. Its Computational Photography Algorithms otherwise seems good.

Anonymous, 19 Sep 2023This would make the S24U less competitive vs others imo. A ... moreThe 10x is mediocre at best though. A high quality 5x would be way better and more useful.

it was one of the main unique selling points of the Ultra phones, remove this and you are just becoming more and more bland.
Why not simply improve the sensor and raise the megapixel count somewhat, if this becomes true, I will simply skip the S24 Ultra all together, even though I use the 10X sparingly, its still really good to have it.
What will be used instead, a 3X and 5X? couldn't care less with such minuscule focal range differences, even 5X and 10X would be considerably better, why not do cropping on the main sensor, 200mp surely must allow quite a bit of cropping aka apples method of giving 2X.

Let's hope this rumor is fake. I don't want any more features removal.

Yeap. Samsung is definitely on self destruct mode

love how samsung right after Apple announced the iPhone 15 Pro decided to entirely ditch the one thing that made their Ultra-branded phones shine.

I just hope the 50MP Telephoto Camera on the S24 Ultra Delivers the same, if not similar quality to the 10MP Periscope on the S23 Ultra.

When are they actually going to upgrade or improve the cameras and the quality instead of this marketing garbage?

wait for the 10x sensor in the fold 6 ultra or something like that next year... hahaha every time they withdraw things and increase prices, pay more for less is the new strategy nowadays!! The good thing about this is that the s23 ultra for Christmas will be on sale

Digital zoom will never replace properly.

This is a move to reduce costs, while keeping phone same price or bit higher.
