Bad decision from Samsung. S23 Ultra has sharp, usable photos even at 30 zoom. Photos will be blurry mess with 5x zoom sensor even if it is bigger. It will be on PIxel 7 pro level.

First I don’t need a photographic lesson about lenses..
However if your rivals such as mi 13 ultra going with 2 different zoom lenses and you are ditching your one only distinct point from others you really need to come up with something special..some of us will not care about pixel binning..

Samsung have been downgrading stuff sneakily for years now. Not surprised.

Not to mention they made sharp pics at 12mp or 50mp, not sure what you want, are you trying to tell me cheap phones without zoom do not perform like iphone at 5x... I know that.
Also do not expect s23u 200mp out of cheaper phone, processing, lens,... matters.
If you are deciding between cheap digital vs optical, it doesn't matter if the processing is bad - it will be bad either way, maybe better with optical since digital needs more processing.
          hope it helps.

I'm not impressed. Maybe samsung saw that other company could get away charging premium prices with only 5x telephoto lens and decided to follow suit.
              Complacency at its finest?

50MP sensor can do lossless 2x zoom with the recent s23 update on 24mm lens. so,it will do a lossless hybrid 10x zoom with a 5x optics. s23 ultra uses low quality zoom between 4x and 9x. lossless hybrid zoom can fix that. they can also use a wider aperture like f3.0 with the zoom camera to let more light on its sensor.

Put an extra usb-c port, an headphone jack, sd card and I would be fine with them going upto 12 cm in width

(Also as far as unorthodox opinion goes, 90hz is good enough, the snapdragon 7+ is good enough, plastic bodies are better, and a non built in stylus has more pros than cons, and if they'd just staple an RX100 to the back of the phone instead of messing with multiple sensors I wouldn't mind that especially if it was flippy like the old Zenfones)

Far worse than flagships from 2014. Even at 12.5MP.

Well, I also find this as a bad idea. If they should use a 7x instead of a 5x that would make more sense. Between 3x and 5x there is not so much of difference lol, but a 3x and a 7x would make sense.

                                      2. digital zoom on 200mp, again, 200mp resolution should be more capable than one from 50mp if processing is not ****. 50mp in zoom too, a lot depends on processing, just look at test sample shots in camera comparison tool, what can mate x2 do with 50mp, s23u, apple and some others are close too.
Its also true a lot depends on real performance which makes digital zoom bad most of the time, but its not true for every case. There is also option of shooting hi res and cut out to get it, which is still preferable to using darker aperture of tele lens.
                                      3. Its really sad seeing this 200mp or even 50mp and not having their full resolution raw output, just jpeg in most cases. Even if it was without good color stack, just having 200mp of monochrome picture would be awesome. Otherwise its just useless numbers.
