the surface laptop sucked with repairability, but the cutting of the fabric was just exaggeration.

Apple (and other brands) made their stake holders more rich then they already were, charging incredibly and absurd high prices for parts and devices they made cheap in Asia, paying miserable salaries to workers etc. This is a West thing. Most companies did this through the last 2 decades. But it seems it might stop now and things will start to get made in the West more often.
The big question is, are governments and companies who threw a blind eye to that while they were filling their pockets, now tell consumers that they will have to pay much more for their smartphones, cars, appliances etc?

Let's be real for a second. The only reason why Apple is the richest company in the world because they charge for everything.
Crappy cables? Apple earns a lot with every you buy because they are priced higher than 3rd party, higher quality ones.
No microSD support? Then they couldn't possibly sell you iCloud subscription.
No headphone jack? They can always sell you 100+€ AirPods.
No charging brick in the package? They can always sell you one for a lot of money.
Limited support for 3rd party music apps? Then people wouldn't subscribe to Apple Music.
No real ability to sideload? Devs would boycott AppStore=Apple losing money.
No RCS? Apple would lose customers because there wouldn't be a reason to use iMessage (US problem only).
