Kuo: iPhone 15 Pro overheating due to compromised thermal design

27 September 2023
Apple went too far with the weight reduction of the cooling system.

rquitage, 27 Sep 2023probably assembly error or big variance in chip qualityIf not every unit experiences it, then I'm more inclined to agree that it could be great variance in chip quality like you said. It looks like there could be a chip lottery going on.

As I remember AMD solve the CPU overheat problem on their non X series, which its run lower clock and insanely very low power while maintaining its performance (a bit lower performance than X series)
I guess Apple might take note, possibly will solve this problem by later iOS update, which is more optimise, low heat and very low power as its should.

In other words Apple is gonna limit the a17pro power to the level of the a15 from two years ago and only use full a17pro power for benchmark tests

Super Android 22, 27 Sep 2023Nah this is what, their 3rd phone gen thats had heat issues... moreAbsulutely. For battery life the "3g talk time" is the most important part of the test, because that's the mobile network and not WiFi. As soon as you see bad 3g talking time, it means terrible battery life in everyday usage. People just convince themselves otherwise to justify their owning it (And paying tons of money).

Eudaemon., 27 Sep 2023Apple going through their "Snapdragon 8 gen 1" phase?Nah this is what, their 3rd phone gen thats had heat issues and servere throttling. They keep bragging how high their chip clocks yet dont explain "you get this performance for 2 minutes and the rest of the time you get 70% of total power at best".

The SD 8 gen 2 will outperform this chip most of the time, all apple give is their own data numbers to convince people with less brain cells that "look, our product best". They can keep clocking their chips the highest and they can keep lying about their chips performance... Just like their battery life aswell which isnt anywhere near as what apple or this site make out.

Apple users will still buy this device (aka Smart iHeater) and they always buy whatever Apple tells them to buy!

Potential Apple Statement: "This is not a design fault, it is a new feature called Dynamic Heatland. As the Gas and Electricity prices are high around the world, this feature will help people boil water and milk, cook light meals and iron their dresses. This is also echo-friendly and carbon free. "

So please accept this feature as is do not blame Apple or Tim Cook for this.

                                  Thank you !

Jman, 27 Sep 2023Yawn. This is a problem that has occured so often in Smartp... moreMy S23 Ultra has never overheated. Even when out playing games on the hottest days of the year. I've owned it since release too.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is an issue of both the chip and the thermals. Earlier this year there were reports that 3nm yields weren't going that well. That combined with more power consumption and what could be a worse thermal design, we, unfortunately, have an oven on our hands. Or in our hands, to be exact.
