AnonD-546724, 27 Sep 2023A software update will only reduce performance indeed. But ... moreOr... simply add half-decent VC cooling system in future devices. 15 is a lost cause.
Sure, the phone won't be fancy light, but at least you won't have burns from using it

Apparently 3nm yields from TSMC aren't very good. Apple deserves that for wanting to get almost all 3nm production for themselves though. Serves them right.

Kinda weird that Kuo would comment on something like this. Tbh I just think people's phones are indexing since they're still brand new - that's all there is to it. No way Apple would knowingly release phones that constantly overheat.

My conclusion would be thermal pad/paste production issues.
Ti thermal conductivity actually is a plus it helps to move the heat. Case may get hotter but the CPU itself will be cooler.

Anonymous, 27 Sep 2023While Apple is amazing at selling old stuff like they were ... moreThat's what I am saying. I don't think it was that difficult to understand. Apple is obviously not going to bring any internal revisions in any iPhone 15 phones.
So, when they move to A18 in iPhone 16 and give it proper cooling, the performance jump would be significant. But, apple will market it is a significant leap in performance whereas it actually is just a normal evolution and refinement in performance and efficiency.

Dimtons, 27 Sep 2023Sit besides me and grab the popcorn guys 🍿Let the throttling updates games begin. This reminds me of SD888 limiting performance in certain apps with the likes of OnePlus just to save a few 1°C & the pikes of Oppo limiting refresh rates in games & certain apps like Chrome & YouTube.
A VC cooling system is the only solution with these high performing chips. 😅 I have an SD888 phone performance mode is always off 😅🥵

Contrary to what people say here, VC doesn't actually reduce the temperature of your smartphone. As you can see from the various reviews on this site, none of the phones with large VCs stayed cool in our benchmarks.
The only surefire way to lower your smartphone's temperature is to limit power consumption by lowering the frequency.
Apple designed the A16 chip to operate at 3.46GHz, but the A17 pro chip bumped the frequency up to 3.78GHz, resulting in a disastrous 14W power consumption.
The blame for all of this lies not with the design of the product, but with Apple, who designed the chipset, and TSMC, who manufactured it.
Apple should probably put in a feature that limits the maximum operating frequency, like the "Light Mode" that Samsung created.

Maybe Apple forgot to throttle the processor outside of geekbench tests :D

It is not efficient. There was info in another tech site that the Pro max has worse battery life than the pro max 14. So the max is a failure too, even if it doesn't overheat.
Of course, Apple users don't care about anything, basically, so they'll still be happy.

A software update will only reduce performance indeed. But the already mediocre 10% increase in performance would then be a single digit value. Maybe they should've kept the A16 in the Pros as well.

My iPhone 15 pro heats up during calls. After 2 minutes it's hot, after 5 minutes it's very hot, I can't hold the phone to my ear. I sent it for service

The smaller the node, the more heat is being generated.

iPhones don't have a vapour chamber VC cooling system. They just use ghahite tape only. Very poor cooling design.
Was supprised to see no VC cooling in the teardown videos 🙆🤷🥶

Obsession with thin and light ruins another Apple product! Remember bend gate and the butterfly keyboards? Bought a new iPad, the glass is so thin compared to the old ones you can flex the screen underneath when you press.

Yawn. This is a problem that has occured so often in Smartphones. The Galaxy S23 Ultra does it, and the Google Pixel 7 pro does it. Hell, even my Pixel 6 Pro gets toasty under stress. This won't be an issue for everyday users, it's just a high profile release gets more people pushing the devices to their limits.
