Google Pixel 8's Tensor G3 GPU tests show weak performance but decent efficiency

12 October 2023
Its efficiency is comparable to the Dimensity 9200 (same GPU but with more cores and fabbed by TSMC rather than Samsung), but it delivers lower frame rates in tests.

Luckily there is already evidence in other places, I'm just waiting to see what they will say here.

Poco F5 is on the mid range category with the likes of Oneplus Nord 3, you know the category that costs almost half the price of Pixel 8....

8 Gen 2 truly is a wonderful chipset. Quite efficient given the raw power it has.

Now speaking of G3... Is not on the same league but that isn't news to anyone. We knew that from the start. What I do see is increased efficiency over the G1 and G2, which should translate to better battery life (something at which neither Pixel 6 and 7 series were good at). Waiting to see the battery tests here.

This is what a person who pays 1000 dollars for a phone expects, it doesn't matter if he uses it to cut vegetables, it is his money, he can use it however he wants, it is what you pay and don't choose what you choose with others who are below those 1000 from google

Anton., 12 Oct 2023Well, interestingly, both chips were melted down by Samsung... moreFirst Qualcomm left because of yields, same thing is happening to Tsmc with 3nm right now, as I said everyday here Samsung 4nm isn't bad like people think it is, it's still inferior to Tsmc 4nm but gape isn't that big, they were screwed badly because of yields but now they fix it you will see gape narrowing. Plenty of Samsung made cpu have been released this year with solid battery life and efficiency.

As you can see in graph efficient is almost same as Dimensity 9200 even though D9200 has more cores and lower clocks (assume 890mhz from G3 gpu is true from leaks)

I checked plenty of websites released P8 reviews like Phonearena battery life is good and in some test better than Iphone 15 and s23 ultra like Streaming one.

the gpu is shocking but no one was expecting any different. on the other hand, cpu-wise, I was about to say: "what were people expecting with only one X3" only to find out later on that even the 8g2 uses only one 🤣 what an awful combination. not only perf-wise, but efficiency wise as well.

rosesarerosie, 12 Oct 2023So why not both ? We are happy and all about the AI stuff, ... moreWell, to be perfectly fair, these chips are perfectly performing in 98% of things that people do on their phones anyway. Gaming excluded but there are so many other phones to choose from that the guy is kinda right. You have to measure the machine through the lenses of what it was designed to do. You can't complain that Caterpillar 797F is uncomfortable and loud because comfort and quietness were not its design priority, just as you can't complain Honda Civic can't haul 20 tons of potatoes - that's not what it was designed to do.

I understand the purpose of these tests, but we're at a time when even mid-ranger CPUs have more oomph than an average user needs to swipe TikTok or watch adult films under the blanket. It is ridiculous that some people can't objectively quantify that and they only need the best of the best, only for the phone to never use above 20% of its abilities in every day use. Those power-hungry scenarios are a verge case. The only reason we see constant increase in processing power is because people wouldn't buy a new phone with the same chipset, and they need to buy a new phone every year-or-two to sustain the damn consumptionism and the economy it created, or we're all out of jobs and income.

Vikass17, 12 Oct 2023That's all software side. Nothing to do with chip. Also to add to this is electricity through the chip itself. That can fully ignore the software yet there are certain functions of the chips that'll not activate without some software applied to it.

Vikass17, 12 Oct 2023That's all software side. Nothing to do with chip.Do pray tell what do you think the software runs on old chap?!

                                      On the processor!

Efficiency is based off the ability of the cpu to run the software at THE most optimal levels.

Same goes for Power per Watt co.oarisons, processor speeds etc ALL the things we measure about SoC's cpus etc. Software and hardware combined.

                                      It's a balance.

Hemedans, 12 Oct 2023No its not unless you use earlier leaks, check Pbkreviews h... moreAlso, why are you comparing an almost 2 year old processor with a new one?
