i don't think i'll be getting any phones other than the zenphone 8/9/10 as and when i can afford them. don't care how old they become. they are the only ones that are- small, decent cmos and a 3.5mm. first up is the 8 when i ditch my a41.

Having a very updated software or UI with a very outdated hardware unable to run new games or apps even od apps and after 5 years of use even aps like facebook, tik tok, brownser etc will laggs like hell no thanks.
I update or check for updates once or twice a week and try to buy new phone when my old one is paid. My network carrier contracts last 2 years and when my phone still have some value will try to sell. Like anybody would like to buy a 5-8 years old phone. No chance.
Maybe for 10-20 euros as a spare device.
To me its disgusting to have it this long because it will loose all value and will be like a year old tooth brush. No thanks.
Just for exampple Samsung S10 is 5 years old can you play Forza Motosport, Genshin Impact or Diablo Immortal on that device??? No you cant not without laggs and delay.
Like i said 5+ years old devices are good for calls and text thats it. Even a feature phone like Nokia 105 can do this.

After almost 6 years I was forced to switch because of bank apps. I has tough time pick new one to meet my expectations and despite switching from 6 years old mid-range to flagship there are some compromises and not many benefits.

I was using my previous phone for 6+ years, just because it was a windows phone which I liked and I was not liking the bloated skins on Android side and the ever increasing phone size.
Using my current phone for 4+ years as I do not want to get rid of the headphone jack and SD card. Looks like I would hold onto this phone for longer than the windows phone given that it would be compatible with apps for a few more years.
Hoping that SD card and user replaceable batteries would come back by that time.

I had the Galaxy Mini (The original one, not the GT-S5570i which was a bit better) from 2011 to 2017.
I had the Galaxy S7 (Exynos, 32GB) from 2017 to 2022.
I had the Moto G6 Play (32/3GB, EU No NFC Version) from 2018 to 2022.
I now mainly use the POCO F3 (256/8GB) from 2022.
I still have them and they kinda work, but they have almost dead batteries.
I stopped using the 1st one because of the specs and OS, were unusable. After so many years, you couldn't install anything (The battery died for this one because I left it in the shelve unused for a while). The S7 was the 1st one to have serious issues with the battery and that's why I was forced to upgrade (well 32GB weren't enough as well).
The Moto G6 Play I found it half price, for 99 euro on Black Friday 2018 and I got it as a work/uni phone as I didn't want to take with me, my precious S7. After a few months it started to lag so much that it was unbearable (This phone was Motorola By Lenovo, my mother's Moto G2 was a Motorola By Google device and it smoothly working all the time).
Like with the S7, the POCO F3 was already 1 year old when I got it. The sad part about the device is that it only got 2 Android version upgrades and the small security/bug fixes updates are a rare thing.
I like Xiaomi phones for their great value (good specs at a great price) but you don't get good software support unless you go for their more premium/expensive models. I also like their OS features and UI.
My next device might be the Galaxy S24 Ultra or an iPhone 16 Pro Max/Ultra.
The fast charging with the POCO F3, degraded my battery in one year by a lot (I was careful. properly doing charging cycles) and it's noticeable (Btw I'm careful with charging etc, taking good measures for the battery health and in general for all of my devices). I should have bought a normal speed charger at 5W (Galaxy mini had a fixed micro-USB cable, the other ones I have are 15W+), with the S7 you could disable fast charging if you wanted from the settings. So probably an iPhone for a change!

Just switched to the Sony Xperia 1 V this May
I don't hold my phone's for as long as possible as I need to make sure my phone is well usable, but I also don't change my phones too often.
Previous phone: LG V50S (G8X's Korean 5G variant), used for 2 years but I bought it in 2021 instead of 2019, so it's still ~4 years after launch
2nd previous phone: LG G8, used for 4 years and 3 months, retired earlier this month
3rd previous phone: LG G5, used for 2 years and a half, could be 3 years but still retired earlier because I mistakenly considered my SIM card's issue as the phone's issue. So sad!

I usually keep my phones for 2 years but i never buy it more than 300euro/ new. This time i am trying a flagship ( s23 ultra bought for 900euro new). my old phones still in use by mom and dad are poco f3 bought at launch, and k20 pro bought again at launch. Both phones needed new batteries. Poco f3 was going strong but the old phone of my mom broke ( redmi 7) and needed a new phone. So i used it as an excuse to buy a new phone which now i can afford to buy a flagship. So far the s23u is best phone i have ever had, perfect in every sense but even after 4 months i still am not getting used to how big it is. Anyway i plan to keep it for 4 years and then pass it on my parents. Next time i won't buy a phone this big. My gf has pixel 6a and i think that phone has perfect size!

I'm not going to pay extra for the folding screen, and I'll switch to the new device only in case of apps start lagging or the battery degrades.
Oppo Reno 4 Pro 5G is still holding up pretty good.
Setting up a new phone feels more like a burden these days.

As I see 2 questions above I will answer both.
1. I got my phone in March '23 and it's a Samsung Galaxy S23.
2. Varies.

Prev phone: Micromax Juice, used for around 6yrs.
Didn't have any performance problems as such and loved it till the end. Changed only cuz it's limited memory could no longer hold against greater storage requirements.
Currently using: Redmi 9A for around 3yrs.
Irritated and frustrated. Hate this thing. Only enduring with it cuz want to buy with my money.
Going to change: Next year, most likely moto g54 5G or moto g stylus 2023. Hope to use that for 5+ yrs.

S20 FE 5G (2020) bought it in 2023. I choose it because it was the last good smartphone from Samsung that still had the SD card slot + SD865. Will probably use it for about 2 more years before I donate it.
No 3.5mm jack is a nightmare!

Now that’s a survey I‘m interested in the results, especially because you ask (or asked, don’t know if you still do that) whether people will buy a newly released phone and every week, some 30-40% said „yes I will buy this phone“ which would mean the average reader of this site keeps their current phone for 3 weeks.

AnonD-512010, 29 Oct 2023You will forever be keeping your S10eI'm seeing a lot of people on social media and youtubers too, still using s10 series phones. Seems like the s10s are a beast of a phone.
