Imagine you put years of R&D (personell=wages, equipment=cash, time=money) into developing a service and then paying serious money to patent it.
Then suddenly other companies use your service for free (aka STEAL it). Then you ask nicely for them not to steal and pay patent fee but they don't. Thats when Nokia sue with all right as thievery is not acceptable be it in business or privately.
Education might be in order before asking questions like that ;-)

Most of the peoples comments doesn't make any sense or have any idea what Nokia is nowadays. HDM = is not Nokia.
"Nokia going broke, away."
Its not going away or broke. Basically they don't make phones anymore, HDM is just using Nokia brand. HDM paid Nokia to use brand.
Nokia is not going anywhere. They are up and running good. They are doing telecommunication stuff. Basically like Huawei, Sony Ericson. Cellular, 5G, etc. They are major factor in this business.
Also the fact that they have put lots of effort in R&D over the decades. And other are using their R&D for free? Ofc Nokia can ask and sue if they are not paying their license fees.

For example Intel was hurting Amd for 30 years.. Even Apple was jealous Sony so much and they copied sony indirectly..
Everyone somehow copy someone.. I believe Nokia took inspiration from someone in past but tech in early times weren't regulated

It's slow process same like in universe but unavoidable 🙂

Why Nokia suing everyone? 🤷♂️ They have no sales so they decided to target everyone who breaching their sht.. But when they somewhat had sales they didn't bother to sue or inspect or check if someone using their sht without whatever they have with others.. Bit pathetic or desperate better word..

Nokia Wil sue everyone for their 20000 patents(?)
And they'll become profitable again.
Hopefully Nokia uses some of that money to actually make phones.

If Nokia still wants to make money, the easiest thing they could've done is kick-starting and funding their licensees, instead, most of them were treated like forgotten princesses.
Or else, they should ask for a significant share as intellectual properties for their monophonic ringtones, since their ringtones are being played in Tamil movies and Instagram reels as sound effects, since it shouldn't be considered "free real estate", all thanks to the fact that each of them took at least 2 hours on average for the composers to compose those monophonic ringtones.
That seemingly "stupid" action would've made perfect sense, compared to being a parent troll while losing the trust of us users of their products, and being the centre of being ridiculed consistently.
