Zendroid, 13 Nov 2023Then they will die like windows and Linux. Especially when ... moreNo, they won't.
Their current market is mainly China and I'm pretty sure that 3rd party apps have been already developed for this new OS. They won't release this OS in Europe or other parts of the world..

YUKI93, 13 Nov 2023I wonder if the existing HarmonyOS will still be working in... moreThe transitional phase was Harmony OS with Huawei providing hand holding support thru Gbox, Gspace, Lighthouse (malaysia), third party apk pulling sites. They also never blocked GMS/MicroG sideloading.
It's just that a lot of sellers/telco staff fool buyers into thinking Huawei has 1:1 Play store support so we get a lot of angry people who are new to huawei devices.

Zendroid, 13 Nov 2023Then they will die like windows and Linux. Especially when ... moreI doubt they will go down so hard, especially when the invested a lot into dragging developers for their own appstore once they got blocked on Google services. You see, they are one of the industry giants that can afford to invest money into their RnD. Yes, change is hard to do. They will use they own app format HAP, which most likely will have some converters for APK (because, duh, go developers). All and all, let them cook and we will see what happens.

I wonder if the existing HarmonyOS will still be working in tandem with HarmonyOS Next. There should be a transitional phase for people to get familiar with the next all-new OS. If Huawei can give a working Beta build of HarmonyOS Next for public use, that'd be sweet.

Angga, 13 Nov 2023Well, that's explain a lot.Good. No go out and get some experience in life. Live 2 years in different countries and watch how well you will manage without important apps that only works on Android and ios. Make us proud.

Hummus , 13 Nov 2023It could become like iOS, actually... in China, that is. ... moreTrue. But by being anticompetitive and copying iOS tactics, HarmonyOS has lost a lot of its functionality and freedom.

Now, HarmonyOS users in China have to cope with the worst of socialism and capitalism at the same time.

HarmonyOS is already big in China, and China software ecosystems (?) is already different enough from the rest of the world.
Huawei is a big player (again, in China). So it is possible that they could negotiate with developer to make apps available for HarmonyOS. Don't forget, China has a lot of people.
