The latest 7-series Qualcomm chip slides in between the SD 7+ Gen 2 and SD 7s Gen 2.

Anonymous, 17 Nov 2023Latest report says Samsung 4nm has reach 70% . That's now, that's why lot of midrange use Samsung foundry like 4 gen2, 7s gen 2, E1380, E1330 etc but before they had 30-50%.

Hmmm Qualcomm taking a page out of Apple's books where they compare the new chip to one that is two gen old

Anonymous, 17 Nov 2023Having EIS or not is not related to sensor. That's not what the Omnivision documentation says. : "4K video at 60 fps and 4K video with EIS at 30 fps."

Ohh finally a worthy successor of the 778G???

Anonymous, 17 Nov 20237+g2 > 7g3 > 7g2s > 7g1The linked article about 7s Gen 2 suggests it is worse than 7 Gen 1. I find that confusing because in the mobile space, the S (for example on iPhones) was a suffix for promoting better speed or something. Maybe Snapdragon 7e Gen 2 would have been better, or better yet something like 6+ Gen 2, I think that would have been the best way to go about that one.

potato4k, 17 Nov 2023This is the annoying thing I see with Qualcomm YoY. They re... moreBecause the 695 is cheaper, simple. Not all phones are full custom single pieced aluminium devices with full custom ISP controllers etc, sometimes its off the shelf parts including shell of the phone, battery and the SoC it uses.

Also the 6 series chips arent aiming for the premium higher mid range segment, they are generally for lower- mid range devices. Also forgetting if you manufacture million/millions/tens of millions of that 1 device and you want to make profit, got to calculate the right SoC to use while hitting the right segment in the phone market, having the 7g2 could mean worse camera set up and screen to save money vs the 695 (just an example).

Gladly it is not nerfed 8g2.
Because gap between 6 and 7 series would be too big.
                      Too unnecessary.
Since price of 7+g2 and 8+g1 were not much different, other parts of phones were sacrificed by using cheap components to keep prices lower.
                      This is always bad idea.

Super Android 22, 17 Nov 2023No its not lol, its not even close. Just because they share... moreThat is called nerfing the chip.
Downclocki g is not only way.
7+g2 was made out of 8+g1.

Anonymous, 17 Nov 20237+g2 is exactly 8+g1 , but on purpose capped. No its not lol, its not even close. Just because they share the same cores and similar clock speeds isnt everything involved in what makes the SoC. Clock speeds, cores and connectivity (fast connect 6900) and i believe the ISP for camera (unless you have a phone which the company uses its own custom one) is all that is the same between them, might be maybe an extra resolution you can record in and slightly faster fps recording too (4k 120fps HDR recording as an example).

8+g1 had double the ram channels (dual vs quad, 25.6 gb/s vs 52 gb/s), a better gpu (double the performance, 1.7 teraflops vs 3.4 tereaflops), a faster modem (x62 vs x65 modem) and better a.i. Accelorator (probably a couple other minor differences that pushes the 8+g1 further ahead).

They are simply not the same chip, neither is the 8g1 to 7g2, a lot closer but not the same.

Gundulpacul, 17 Nov 2023Snapdragon 7 series are not bad at all. But the question is... moreThis is the annoying thing I see with Qualcomm YoY. They release a bunch of chips, yet the OEMs are only using few of them to the death (eg SD695, SD625). I mean how many SD7/s/+ gen 2 phones out there? Now we're at 7gen3? Meanwhile there are gajillion phones with SD695.

Snapdragon 7 series are not bad at all. But the question is why few of them materialised on phones in the market. We’ve seen dimensities on several phones. Seems Qualcomm sets the price too much for 7 series lines so that become unpopular among manufacturers.

This become joke.... or just a rebrand game..

The 18/11/2021 announced Dimensity 9000 SoC with Mali-G710 MP10 graphic (2 years ago 'flagship' SoC)

used by Xiaomi Redmi K50 Pro and Vivi X80 pro

                                    Looking at the 7 Gen 1, 7Gen 3 will also be X2, A710 A510
(The even odder named 7S Gen 2 is 4 performance +4 efficiency cores)

Architecture for Architecture sake, Analyst Kuo said in a general comment that Qualcomm would initiate a price war.
Mediatek Dimensity 9300 now sits at the head of the table.

Qualcomm cannot command the extremely exorbitant ransom for flagship SoC, it still remains flagship but it doesn't take a genius (did I bring a follower in?) to realise that phone manufacturers have MORE options.

Months before I did say wait and see, nobody waited and nobody saw, look where we are now!

If I have the time I will try to locate an earlier post, where the community was thrashing Exynos 2400, I wrote then "what if Dimensity 9300 were the better SoC should Samsung continue to use Qualcomm? "

The Ultra range is exclusively 8 Gen 3 ultra, in real world negligible performance, not a gripe that the Flagship S24 is NOT using the premier SoC, or is it? Nah!

Recycling rehashing Qualcomm has to expand into all areas still sub the two year old Dimensity 9000, the which I haven't looked into, will be / has been reissued.

Flagship innovation drags everything up, if you are not paying high prices for SoC, 2mp cameras will go sooner rather than later!
