Testing the Dimensity 9300 in the vivo X100 Pro - can it handle the heat?

Early reports showed a chip that throttled badly, we set the record straight.

Well done Mediatek!

[deleted post]Not exactly sure why Mediatek's rise upsets you so much. What's Snapdragon feeding you with? By the way, I'm writing this with a Snapdragon powered Realme.

quite impressive how far mtk has come, but I would still like better custom rom support

That new upcoming Snapdragon tech may be better suited for laptops. Snapdragon will have new custom cores for smartphone SoCs, but the improvements will be nowhere as great as they are hyping them to be.
Also, they're all based on the ARM platform, with none, minor or some modifications.

"The Smartphone CPU Review You NEED to Watch!" that one.

But I prefer Golden Reviewer and the amazing Gizmochina. They both do great work, they use gpuwatch AND show the temps, can't get more objective than that.

This chipset also beat 8g3 on their Genshin Impact stability test. Look in their chinese yt channel if interested.
Be careful agreeing with that guy you reply to, he's a Qualcomm fanboy and cannot be objective when it comes to Mediatek.

Hemedans, 17 Dec 2023Dear GSMArena, it's best to look at at actual score an... moregreat take, I think that pulls into question the meaning of benchmarks nowadays. The best way to gauge the phone's performance would be to push it actually, so playing Genshin at max settings with max brightness and with Mobile Data turned on would prove to be a killer benchmark for current phones and future ones, it would push the phones to their limits to see how they sustain their performance under a good amount of load, how the temperatures are on the phone and how the battery is. If not that, then play Genshin, PUBG, and some other intensive games (no not asphalt 9), or even try emulating with multiple times the internal resolution.

Long live mediatek, hope they chase efficiency next instead of raw performance. Nobody ACTUALLY cares about raw performance, it's just something you brag about and not feel that much, but heat and sustained performance? Now that's important, ESPECIALLY in hotter climates. Mediatek did an ok job here but just because the others are also mid at sustained performance doesn't mean they have to be as well. I hope we get an 80+% stability score on all phones one day with manageable thermals.

Anyways, Mediatek have come such a long way, I remember when they were the butt of every joke, even after the great attempt that was the X25 they got made fun of (kind of rightfully so) for their GPU performance and their overhyped cpu performance, now they're tied for the best chip maker imo, Apple's chips are great and all but they heat up way too fast for the same performance or similar performance to Android makers. It could very well be their poor cooling. Samsung sucks and Google sucks just as much. Mediatek broke into this market and turned it from the Big Two, to the Big Three. Bravo.

They're too busy wanting a powerful $700 phone to decently emulate a $200 videogame console. The smart lads.

Competition is good for everyone, so good job to Mediatek here.

dimensity 9300 and 8 gen 3, actually similiar with 8 gen 1 case but they have high peak performance to solve that. The cpu have high wattage power with upgraded IPC while the gpu throttle down to 55% ala 8 gen 1. The throttled gpu is similar with 8+ gen 1 and 8 gen 2 sustained performance. So upgrading from 8+ gen 1 or 8 gen 2 will give you a bit better cpu and AI features.

Briefly Qualcomm SG2 cost more than Apple Bionic 16
Analyst Kuo predicted Qualcomm may start a price war.
Qualcomm doesn't have or cannot now charge a premium, so in order to retain market it will have to reduce charges for both 8G3 8G2 etc due to Mediatek

Some may just go to Mediatek because Qualcomm cannot cut to the bone.

I expect more manufacturers will see Mediatek as a better option indeed there are more Eastern phone companies with flagship chips (mediocre camera) save on SoC improvement on camera... please.

Unlike us "Gen Pop" companies are aware of Mediatek so before putting a non flagship SoC in to a premium handset was bad, flagship SoC into premium phone is an easy sell

                                      This is beyond impressive 👏

                                      They took a risk

They nay sayers said it's just for big benchmark scores

But let me inform them unlike qualcomm mediatek PARTNERS with OEMS...

In the DEVELOPMENT stages of the chip there is a rumour of the 9400 being worked on with vivo

Working with your buyers to give them a customised experience is the real benchmark antutu cannot account for that's why so many ultra variants of the dimensity exists

Don't just brush it off as just higher clock speeds cause then your missing the entire point.. it's about the growing collaborative relationship that can have massive long term implications

Gsmarena team stop spending time deleting comments and spend 18 USD for a temperature thermometer....

Come on man take this constructive criticism or get a flir image or something take the same technical detail to your heating tests it's long overdue

Especially now that we maybe entering an era of no more efficiency cores in flagships socs
