Other smartphones during that time was only $200 with contract, less than half the price of the iPhone. People mocked the iPhone for being too expensive. Even Steve Ballmer laughed at it. But guess what, people saw it as a great value. Why? Because the iPhone can be their MP3 player, phone, PDA, digital camera, all in one without having to buy those devices separately. Suddenly the $500 iPhone price was not that bad. And after the initial launch getting the early adopters, Apple then launched the iPhone 3G for $200 with contract to get the rest of the consumers.

Same thing here. $3500 may look expensive for us. But consider the early adopters who wanted a large screen monitor and sound for their Apple desktop setup. The Pro Display XDR with a stand is already $6000 on its own, and it’s not even portable. Yet you can just spend $3500 for the Vision Pro, and you get the big display, Spatial Audio, oh and it can be battery powered if needed and can be a standalone computer on its own as well. That $3500 actually looks to be a pretty good deal now. And of course Apple is already working on a cheaper 2nd gen version (this has been rumored as well), to get the rest of the consumers. Same formula.

Jobs was visionary. Tim, despite not being a product person, at least is the master of the numbers that took Apple to be the trillion dollar company today. But who’s next? Now that would be more worrisome.

That would almost be something a smart person would do? You could even buy a Quest 3 and a brand spanking new overkill gamer PC and still have money left for a trip to the alps.

        Cross platform VR/XR dev here, I can give you pearls of wisdom from within the industry: this is treated like an overpriced prototype (not even an early adopter Gen1 device) since Apple got no ecosystem or impetus to bring the content, the apps, the games, the user-freedom to their walled garden anytime soon to warrant this exorbitant pricing. Only the influenza crowd and hardcore fruitarian will purchase this thing at launch, since YOU tell me what purpose you are possibly going to use it for on Feb~April 2024 in the year of our lord Jobsus, for fulfilling a role that some other MUCH cheaper HMD cannot perform?

        It will still sell in the US coomsumer market, crazy for iProducts. It will make Apple some money since their profit margins are always padded. But this thing got fail product prospects written all over it and this thing might go the way of Apple servers. You've heard of Apple servers before this post right?

                      Apple user here and I can’t wait for this to fail. The price, the base storage and the end use just doesn’t make sense to me. Yes, I’m sure it is a great product (for some) and Apple does put out quality (no matter how far behind on “innovation”) they are, but this product is not ready for the everyday use for this price.

                          Not excited for this thing, and not excited for the apple fanboys acting like this is the first VR device ever to exist, but I'm glad because it'll hopefully push everybody else to do things better.

                              This is expensive but very impressive for sure. It even can replace computers, smartphones and gaming consoles etc eventually. There's a lot of potential there. I'm not even an apple fan but this does look like an incredible innovation by apple and can't wait to see what the competition comes up with

                              I guess this is the future. The next big thing
