Who will use the handset for up to 7 years?
The battery only be used for 3 years.
We might stay with a handset for 3-4 years. the rest is no longer worth it.

HOLY MOLY!!! I can buy every 6 yrs or 5 years of galaxy sxx ultra!!! but the specs is boring

Okay, of course it's nice to have 7 years of updates, nice to have a titanium frame, pretty good specs, but the design is BORING, the camera layout is boring and bland, say what you will.

Smartphone is not just a smartphone these days, all of my banking apps, government social stuff, both work and non-work-related OTP, etc. is on that phone, so i'm a bit hesitant to try it with no backup.

If that's the case, the galaxy S23 should also get 7 years of updates. That's not cool at all. We pay $1000s on these smartphones. 7 years for galaxy S23 or I will no longer be a samaung customer!

And one free battery replacement from the third year of usage would be magnificent.

Their official website shows battery replacement cost is around 30 USD for S23 ultra.
Don't know the final bill amount which may change after user show his/her face to the service center staffs, lol.

LoneOwl, 15 Jan 2024Why are you ignoring the rest of the specs and focus only o... moreYour comparison is just plain weird. You are comparing the yet to be released S24 Ultra to the S9 as if they were both new phones, released only a couple of months ago. The S9 was one of the most powerful phones in it's time, so in 2018, the S24 Ultra will be one of the most powerful phones of this year. I feel like we all, or at least a lot of people thought that it could last 6-7 years, easily since it was that powerful at the time. I have Snapdragon 845 phones and they are plenty fast, with out of date software of course, but if these software updates are so good then that means that even the S9 could still be "kept alive" with OS updates. The Exynos 9810 model wasn't far behind the Snapdragon 845 model, so I don't think that should be an issue either.

Yeah, of course the S24 Ultra will be more powerful, naturally, as it should be, it's 6 years newer. The battery difference is huge, that's understandable, but it's not like a 5000mAh battery can just last 4-5 years, or more, without showing significantly worse battery life than brand new, same with a 3000mAh battery, which might last 1-2 years less without significantly degrading, but you'd need to change the battery at least once in either of them through a 7 year long usage.

Oh and if the S9's power is such a big issue, then what about low-end A series phones that will get 4 years of OS updates? Galaxy A05s with it's Snapdragon 680 is already much worse than the S9 in everything, and especially SoC, let alone in 4 years of time. Might as well just keep the S9 updated, it could last longer, and would be much less of a pain to use.

Dude, you paid $1200 for a phone and you make so much fuss about a $100 battery replacement after 4 years of owning said phone? This always reminds me of people who scrap money together to buy a BMW and then they are outraged about expensive car parts. I don't know, buy a Hyundai and it'll probably break less from the get go and parts for it will be abundant and much cheaper. But it won't be a BMW, sure...

Man, if true, it'll be even harder for me to ditch Samsung and try Apple this year. So far, the only thing making me hesitant is the absolute lack of multitasking on iPhones. While here, I have a phone that can act like a mini tablet with a pen, can do split screen, and even external desktop mode. Albeit the last one is seldom useful to be truthful. Still, Apple provides a far greater user experience, after having tried their pro models, and generally, thing looks more "finished" on iPhones.
I'm planning on getting an M3 MBA 15" too, so it may be useful to get iPhone 16 pro along with it. But I don't feel like this is one of the more important factors in my choice. I guess I'll just wait and see.

I liked & miss LG, HTC, etc, but their lack of support with OS & security patches put me off buying them & I'm sure that's why they lost buyers & had to close down/ sell their mobile division.

Samsung increasing support will increase resale value, but I really wish they'd Spend More on Hardware & Less on marketing!

laggdroids, 15 Jan 2024These manufacturers will plague the devices with green line... moreVery true. My S21 is just 30 months old.
First a pink line appeared 6 months before after I updated the software. When enquired at the service centre, they said screen needs replacement.
Now last month there was another software update and after doing that one green line has appeared next to pink line. Now total two lines are there.
In fact, my mobile phone has not fallen down and it does not have any visible dents or damages on the body.
So it is very clear that these lines are appearing immediately after the software updates, which means a bug in the sofware updates. But the service centre is not ready to accept this.
I am planning to file a case with consumer court. So people who have encountered similar issues can file a case with consumer court online as Samsung continues to cheat its customers.
So never buy any Samsung products especially mobile phones.
