An iPhone wannabe with that stinking titanium and 7 years of updates, I predict it will fail!

That's not 7 years of updates in any possible meaning, that's just 4 years of support with 3 years of OS updates, which is definitely not going to be the case for Samsung, as they already provide more than that.

So no they are following Google Pixel Phones with the 7 year update thing. They use to follow Huawei now they are following Google. Either way it's still good for the owners.

Solun1, 15 Jan 2024This is insane. Why? Nobody uses their phone for so long.I've had my Galaxy Note 8 since its release and i was planning to keep it for another 6 years, since it was performing just fine. However some apps that i use now state Android 10 as a hard requirement, so i have no option but to buy a new phone. If they did offer 7 years of major updates back then, i'd still be on a relevant Android version today.
Although i don't think they are planning to provide 7 years worth of Android updates, more like 3 and then 4 more worth of security patches.

Cpt.Power, 15 Jan 2024mEh 7 years of updates and the hardware especially the exyn... moreWell, you do not actually know how they hold up, and, these above stated seems to be your assumptions.
Well my friend, from experience, they do hold up well. I still have my old galaxy Note8 (exynos) as my backup phone, still working in mint condition. I even used to play games on it without much issues, only issue being the battery life (not surprising given 3300mAh).
Cuurently using a Note9, no issues at all, above avg battery life, no overheating or anything. Also, it runs far better than the A23 I had in my home for some time. I can play moderate games with 0 lag and overheating issues (not particularly a heavy gamer). Also, editing and stuff can be done smoothly without app crashes or such. Also, screen is great, lacking only HRR (which is not a priority for me as of now). Cameras are alright, better than that A23 and slightly better than Oneplus 8 in almost every situation apart from Extreme HDR, and extreme lowlight.
So yeah, these phones hold up well, and even though I don't plan on keeping phones for longer than 7 years, it is good to have that support, especially in security department.

Not Again, 15 Jan 2024Samsung is expected to announce 7 years of software updates... moreOther people comment a lot as well, and have left multiple comments here too, but they don't bother you, obviusly because you are targeting me, and only me for no reason.

You added nothing to the conversation, or the article, mostly just copy pasted things into yours, added some gibberish, and a targeted message at me with plenty of grammatical errors, it's like a really bad AI wrote your comment, which is nothing new from you @I Just Read, I just don't see the point.

Akarius, 15 Jan 2024Yes, they can. But then it's hardly an "innovatio... more"Yes, they can. But then it's hardly an "innovation" if all it takes is to change sensor supplier, right? "

By that logic nothing would be innovative, so no I disagree. Bigger changes in their smartphones would be innovative in the smartphone market, not in the camera market, the latter is mostly Sony's job. Not to mention that Samsung could also make a 1.0"-inch type sensor if they wanted to, but for some reason they think a smaller 200mp sensor is better. On a side note Samsung could also develop their own fast charging technology using GaN tech (If Infinix could do that, no way Samsung can't) that's faster than 45W, but again they don't want to, because they only need to be "better" than Apple, not the rest of the market and because then they would feel the need to include a charger, which they won't. I'm not asking for 180W btw, just something more than 45W, like 65W or 80W maybe. I feel like even if they did that, while still not including a charger, people would just accept it, and buy one, which would obviously cost a lot of money, which is again more profit for Samsung, so that should be "good" for both parties, but mostly good for Samsung, and better for consumers as they would have the option to buy a 25W,45W or 65W/80W charger depending on their preferences.

Samsung is expected to announce 7 years of software updates for the Galaxy S24 lineup, according to the latest leak. The company's Galaxy AI that is coming with the S24 flagships might command a subscription fee in the future, though.

Samsung is expected to announce 7 years. This is based on those on X (Ice Universe who latest tweet of him 2024 following 2023 him holding a dummy non working phone has been taken down https://twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1746177449753477203

A question is maybe, he has had so many multiple S24 Ultras he snaps 2 photo, yet fails to know the specifications of the phone he is ACTUALLY pretending to hold

In 2030 6G arrives maybe there are some who can hold the S24 for 7 years but I expect they will need 1 or two battery replacements

On upgrades just one, ONE improvement and all other features remain the same is an upgrade no ifs or buts.

There are some that change their phone every year for whatever miniscule improvement this iteration has over last years. Changing after two or even three year contracts more features, I find these software updates do not set the world on fire. ( you don't or can't miss what you never had

In the past it has been observed that one company specs are marginally better the only thing is that we have moved up another G Generation

Oh dear God Darling Yext and whatever phone complete with image This debates now gone to 💩
(and you thought the was an article on RUMOURED Samsung Galaxy S24 series to get 7 years of software updates.... Nope it is whatever Darling Yext, are we up to to 10 NOT on point

I only got two phones in the last 10 years. Although iPhones used to hold up better, my current phone is OnePlus 7 pro, which is barely a flagship replacement price-wise, but is in stellar condition. I also had its screen replaced once and its going great now.

2 months and it drop 50% of the performance 😂

                        Pass

While that is impressive, it doesn't mean anything because no one uses the same phone for 7 years.

To really make this work, they need to manufacture and provide original spare parts and replacements for at least 7 years. California has already passed this as a law, but other states and other countries have yet to follow.

mEh 7 years of updates and the hardware especially the exyns gets obsolette in 3-4 years when playing heavy ganes.
Ram management sucks from very first time you press power button.
Disk space management too with billions of obsolette apps forced by ONE UI like there shouldnt not be a much healthier stock android.
In like 4-5 years hardware will bets useless and obsolette even with candy crus saga, facebook, vaze, whatsapp, signal, twitter, viber and tik tok.
In 5-6 years even brownsiing over samsung internet or google chrome will make the phone lagg like hell.
And at least year before you get your last OS update and security patch your phone will be struggling even with calls and texts.

And if my lucky hit chance your phone will manage to live untill last update its value will be zero and phone will be pointless to sell for a new phone.

Most phones or best way is t keep your device for as long as your warranty lasts and then buying a new phone and selling the old device when its still have good enough value for trade off or direct sale and buy new phone.

7 years of updates imagine you trying to resale S8 samsung which is now 7 years old. Nobody gonna buys that now because it will have zero value now and even something llike Samsung A15 or Note 13 series from xiaomi will be far better, smoother, faster with more ram, battery, better cameras and many else.

Won't you like it t... moreYes, I do have an iQOO 5 Pro, and the last time I checked it, it had the September Security Patch and Android 13, mind you that was on the 7th of November, and it's not my main phone since early June of last year, so I haven't checked it after that. I'll however check on it today, as soon as I get home. It performed very well the last time I was daily driving, so no I wouldn't want any more updates on it that might slow it down, it is good as it is, still very nice of vivo that they gave it 3 full OS updates, it started with Android 10.
As for why I'm keeping it, well because I'm a phone collector and I don't sell my old phones, only ones I sold was an iPhone SE (2020) and a couple of old Sony phones, as they weren't that important.

Anonymous, 15 Jan 2024Then what is an upgrade? Make it simple.Better set of cameras, more innovative features, either hardware or software, and overall, just being more creative and bringing some more exciting tech or stuff, like these Chinese companies. But we know Samsung or Apple won't venture into experiments like these, and anyways, as I said, Samsung and Appls have kind of reached the point where there's basically not much left to improve. Their flagship phones are pretty much perfect at this point, wich is why it's time for some more "creative" stuff. Time for some experiments, even if those won't work out as expected

Something like "Ohh, I will buy an S24 today because Samsung promised us 7 years of updates. I will never buy any other brand because only Samsung and Google promised us 7 years of updates". Or worse scenarios, "I will sell my newly bought S23U and buy S24U because only the S24 will receive updates for 7 years".

they can easily offer those years of upgrades because all flagships from last years are 99% alike so basically 1 update fits all, not to mention android itself doesn't have much features to add either.
