The switch from steel to titanium drastically lowered the iphones weight. Since aluminium is about the same or lighter than titanium the titanium frame wouldnt make any difference. So my answer is titanium for iphones and aluminium for all others. Otherwise it doesnr make sense, also considering the premium price of iphones from which you slmost expect titanium.

      Alluminium sides + plastic back

I don't think I've ever bought or wanted to buy a phone and checked what the frame was made of. I anyways, as any sane person, use a case, so it might as well be plastic, titanium, or adamantium. Don't really care

I don't really care about the frame as long as i can grip it fine. Aluminium can look like stainless steel if made shiny and its grippy compared to brushed.

            Metallic glass
Palladium microalloy glass is believed to be one of the most durable materials on the planet, thanks to its combo of toughness and strength. It’s also extremely elastic, bending when subjected to stress instead of shattering.

This will do for a phone.

But for more fun can someone make me a phone from a Neutron star crust please its believed to be strongest and toughtest material in whole universe???

The problem is the Youtubers who bashes plastic just because it's plastic. The S21 got bashed quite harshly just because of it despite the premium feel, and as such Samsung switched to glass with the S22 onwards.

Stainless steel, I'd rather have heavy phone but pretty sturdy and still affordable

I always put my phone in a case, so I don't really care. I care more about software experience and battery life, and occasionally the camera.

Ceramic is best material, Titanium is only gimmick.

SuperSpruce, 11 Feb 2024What was not mentioned is Titanium's low thermal condu... moreWhich is why the iPhone 15 Pro frame is actually aluminum. The Titanium is just a layer on the surface bonded to the aluminum frame, for cosmetic purposes only.

Let's be clear first that we are talking about the frame, not the surface materials that we feel or the back of the phone. All the flagships are using aluminum frame, even the so called titanium iPhone. The Titanium layer is just the "skin/paint" for the surface. So my vote is for aluminum, as it's been proven to be strong and lightweight.

As for the back material, I prefer plastic. Nowadays, plastic can be molded and/or textured to feel premium and not feel cheap. It also allows lighter weight and better durability than glass.

I miss the days where a phone is durable enough that we can just take it with us without a case or being worried if it fell.

What was not mentioned is Titanium's low thermal conductivity, which means the phone would throttle hard if Titanium was the primary material used to make the phone.

I prefer metal but a high quality plastic can work as durable and cost effective material for phones. Back in the day any phone was made from almost entirely plastic, but it was far better solution because phones didn't require cases

Unibody plastic smartphones also were common for a very short time when Nokia released some about a decade ago

I miss the premium-feeling plastic of the Nokia Lumias of old.

"As for stainless steel, Apple is the only maker that made a real attempt to use it in mass market phones and it lasted for quite a while – from 2017’s iPhone X to the iPhone 14 Pro last year."

Clarification: LG came first to produce a smartphone with stainless steel frame with the LG V10 from 2015. I don't know who started it first before LG (or even if there's one at all), but it was NOT Apple only to do it on a commercially mass-produced smartphone.
