26 March 2024
The screen dimensions also leaked, which show a lot of horizontal space gained for a bit of vertical space lost.

Kangal, 27 Mar 2024Sorry, the comment section kind of broke for me. I was mean... moreBased on your examples, the iPhone would be more like a Corvette, while Samsung would be like a shoddy Tesla, all made of cheap plastic inside like a Prius.

it's better to stay 21:9 but remove the top and bottom bezels and the bezels are the same size, 21:9 is xperia's identity it doesn't need to be changed but renewed

Tann Hauser, 27 Mar 2024If you use 19.5:9 screen all including 16:9, 18:9 and 21:9 ... moreNot all black bars are equal. Small black bars are better than big black bars. As I said, 19.5:9 will have smaller black bars than 21:9 when you watch 16:9 content. Also, as I said, the aspect ratios of most movies aren't 21:9. 21:9 is just very close. There will be very small black bars. By the way, black bars on OLED screens aren't really an issue because they are really black. Black bars are an issue on LCD screens because on those screens, they appear as gray bars because of the backlight, which can be distracting. Of course, the best is to have no black bars, but when black bars are really black, they are a very minor issue.

Makes sense. 5 versions in and no screen real-estate change, just smoother and brighter. Any bigger than 6.5" and it's becoming too long at 21:9. Will also allow them to lower the $$ entry point and a 2k panel can do that. Possibly even opening up a a differentiating pro model that keeps a 4k screen?
Always exciting times seeing what they do!

I don't shoot neither BASIC nor AUTO and I can safely bet that I can frame and take images or videos faster and better than 90% of point and shooters out there with their Pixels, iPhones and what not.

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2024Person demands built-in ND filter, but does not even know h... moreI don't see a problem. Look at how big the cameras are in phones like Honor 6 Magic Pro, Oppo Find X7 Ultra, Huawei P60 Pro, Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max, Google Pixel 8 Pro, Oppo Find X6 Pro, Vivo X100 Pro, Xiaomi Ultra. Best cameraphones in existence. Sony wants to convince us that their phones are great cameraphones.
I see a place - e.g. the Sony 1/5 VI or VII model with a camera like Vivo 100, Xiaomi Ultra.
Sony has a pro camera app, but even with it it's not first in the rankings, none! And their automatic photos lose to phones that are twice as cheap.
Automatic photo mode sometimes requires several attempts to take a good shot - at the level of Xiaomi 11-13T/Pro. Anyway, see what models the Sony 5 is compared to - no one who considers, for example - the iPhone 15, thinks about the Sony 5 (V). I wonder why(irony).

Who will buy a phone for 950-1300€ if apart from the card slot, its worse than Vivo, Oppo, iPhone, Samsung, Pixel in caera/photo - when Sony advertises it as a photo device?! Sony talks so much about photo/camera, it has some of the more expensive phones and it doesn't even have its own "Album" application, all rankings are iPhone, Pixel, Vivo, Samsung, sometimes Xiaomi. Where is Sony? After all, they will soon disappear from the market, almost no one buys these phones. How can you produce sensors for other companies and lose in photography yourself?!

Digdigfig, 27 Mar 2024Your point being?Sorry, the comment section kind of broke for me. I was meant to split that into two comments; one with the explanation, and the other with the hypothetical spec sheet.

                My point?
Well, most people call the Sony Phone as the best in the market. And we're nitpicking small details here. But I was posing the question: who is the target audience?

If they are asking for "top dollar" then they're required to do a great job, or even the best job. But what is that specifically. Is it the most rugged, utilitarian phone? Is it the thinnest, sleekest, most modern phone? Or is it the most practical for everyday conditions phone? Ergo JEEP vs Subaru vs porsche.

I think the "supercar" category is crowded, and the winner is the Flagship iPhone followed closely by the Samsung Fold. As for the "rugged" sector it is an underserved area, and the top contenders seem to be the Samsung xCover 6 Pro, and the BlackView 9800-Pro. Now for the most practical device... well, it is a bit mixed here. It's a comparison between the Sony Xperia 1 V, Samsung A52-s, and LG V60 and I think we know how they rank among themselves.

If you use 21:9, at least 21:9 media will not have any bars.

That is a better usable screen aspect form in my book.

So, they will fix the screen. Now they have to fix the camera (bring 1") and then update cycles. Maybe they want to be competitive or something. LOL!

I don't see how 21:9 is definitely a better option. If 21:9 is better in all cases, TV manufactures will use it instead of 16:9. The aspect ratios of most movies aren't 21:9, by the way. They are actually 2.35/2.39/2.40:1. So if you watch 2.39:1 movies on a 21:9 screen, there will be small black bars.

If Sony does this, I swear this will be my last Xperia Smartphone and so will many people around the world. The first and most important factor is that they produce a smartphone every 6 months, making previous models obsolete due to updates and this is extremely ridiculous. Every high-end Smartphone should be manufactured every year and they are removing all the main unique and most important features that exist in the world of smartphones, which even make them unique to be able to consume content in 4K, will make it ridiculous and for no reason to have. And this is seriously a huge disappointment. Next year, Samsung and Apple will be using 4K screens and the 21:09 format because it is the best format that is even unique to Cinemas and Sony abandoning the best features...
For Sony that you had before.

Manufacturing Smartphones every 6 months is immeasurable stupidity as the world needs to stop a bit of large-scale consumption to protect the environment.

Lots of rumors about dropping the Xperia name as well. I think Sony should make a compact 5.0" model, a normal 6.0" and a large 7.0" model. Anyway I support Sony which is the only Japanese mobile brand in Europe for a long time. I would take this Sony Xperia 1 VI (provisional name) which should be presented in May. But it is also possible that a Sony Xperia Pro II will arrive in the fall 2024

Sony Xperia Should learn from Sharp what they are giving to Public. instead of same things with few changes again and again. or if company wants to make better Mobile Phones with best designs many company are examples at start One-plus. they can a Product called Ultra or Xperia Bang name. i want them to make a best alternative of Samsung Galaxy S-24 Ultra.
