Sony Xperia 1 VI dimensions revealed, the phone will be a bit shorter and a bit wider

26 March 2024
The screen dimensions also leaked, which show a lot of horizontal space gained for a bit of vertical space lost.

Lots of rumors about dropping the Xperia name as well. I think Sony should make a compact 5.0" model, a normal 6.0" and a large 7.0" model. Anyway I support Sony which is the only Japanese mobile brand in Europe for a long time. I would take this Sony Xperia 1 VI (provisional name) which should be presented in May. But it is also possible that a Sony Xperia Pro II will arrive in the fall 2024

Sony Xperia Should learn from Sharp what they are giving to Public. instead of same things with few changes again and again. or if company wants to make better Mobile Phones with best designs many company are examples at start One-plus. they can a Product called Ultra or Xperia Bang name. i want them to make a best alternative of Samsung Galaxy S-24 Ultra.

21:9 Aspect Ratio will give you quiet the benefit for the gaming side if you play pubg from this phone the taller aspect ratio will give you more wider viewing angle than the generic 20:9.

I am a fan of the 21:9 ratio - it fits more scrolling information and sits in small hands better. I can't quite comfortably use Samsung 24+ for example. Reaching the top on a remote-like Sony is much easier than with tablet-like competition.

Even Apple TV looks better with an unobstructed Sony screen because they use this format for their shows. Others should lose sharpness for rescaling 21:9 to fit their 19:9 screens.

I think Sony might lose their identity in favor of those who would never buy them in the first place.

21:9 at least does 21:9 aspect video properly.

Personaly, I dont care much about different aspects, but 21:9 is/was definitely a better option, for so much more rather than less.

If Sony is changing it due to price reduction, I wont mind, although I prefer 21:9 all the way.

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2024...so, not Netflix, much of the non-MGM Amazon Prime Video ... more2-4-0 is still a thing and its more popular than ever thanks to "IMAX Enhanced" fad. But it's stupid to discuss movie camera full frame sensors in the middle of discussion about miniature displays such as those found on a phone. Mobile displays have a really hard time replicating video as intended, they are so far off. That's pretty much evident when you shoot with a cellphone camera and what you see on your mobile screen is miles away what's shown on your calibrated PC monitor or OLED TV.

Sony is the one that put a 21:9 4K movie marketing spin for its Xperias display to make it seem niche geared toward film shooting hobbyist and extreme movie consumer addicts. It made zero sense since the get go. Real benefits in 21:9 mobile displays are touchscreen mobile gaming, app multitasking (when app supports it and doesn't break down it's own UI), additional UI space when using native camera apps to shoot photo/video and when using it as a monitor device for your actual camera.

Sony even went this far to certify its 3840 x 1644 mobile display as 21:9 4K standard. And now they are giving up on it because they don't have money to invest into new gen display as sales are miserably slow to justify such move.

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2024I agree with what you say about usefulness, but the 21:9 di... more...so, not Netflix, much of the non-MGM Amazon Prime Video releases, anything else made for streaming, much of the IMAX catalog, Pixar, Barbie (or many of Greta Gerwig's other movies), Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, stuff WIDER than 2.35 like The Martian...

Not even every Sony Pictures movies is filmed in 2.35: Gran Turismo? not. No Hard Feelings? not.

If you buy a modern RED camera, its native sensor is 1.90. The native sensor on the SONY CineAlta is 1.50; these rely on anamorphic lense compression to mash your 2.35-framed movies onto the full sensor area, and as many directors understand their target screen is no longer a white wall built in the '80s and filled by an analog projector (e.g. "times have changed") so they don't always choose a 1:1.55 lens. I predict you'll find less and less 2.35 films going forward.

Thus, unless you have a really, really compelling reason to continue with 21:9 or you spend a significant amount of time watching top feature films on the Smallest Screen, embrace the change... (Why watch so many movies on a phone anyway?? Do you also turn your custom fit IEMs down to max 35 dBA? Do you cook for 90 minutes to make a single bite for you and for your date while you two crowd around your Xperia for two hours? Do you not own a television, tablet, or laptop for those long trips? Are the thin black bars REALLY such a turn-off, and how do you manage any of those other ratios mentioned earlier??)

What's different in Sony's case is bezels which amount to additional 20mm of height.

Good move to abandon 4K and tall display. This also means the end of Xperia 5 series, which was basically non 4K version of 1 series. Now reduce price of Xperia 1 series to match the to-be-discontinued Xperia 5 series. None will even dare competing with Sony then.

-Think of one of these “Best Category” as like a Porsche 911…. its sleek, beautiful, fast, but uncomfortable to sit and lacks many features. Yet it is the dream car for some people.
-For others the “Best Category” is the Jeep Wrangler, its tough, solid, easy to service but the ride is noisy and parking can be difficult. Basically the polar-opposite to the Porsche. That’s the dream car of some people, especially that want to “drive it till it dies/keep this for life” attitude.
-Then somewhere in-between as “Best Category” there’s the Subaru Forester. It’s not quite rugged but not quite sleek, but it drives comfortably and parks easily. For others, this is their best car, it ticks the essential boxes and isn’t being pretentious.
