26 March 2024
The screen dimensions also leaked, which show a lot of horizontal space gained for a bit of vertical space lost.

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2024DP-PDAF does not exist. It is either dual pixel or phas... moreYeah DP-PDAF is Dual Pixel but shorter lol. Also it's a SONY sensor being made for a SONY phone. I think they'd be able to customise it lol.

Sony's going to pull another Xperia X series move like they did in 2016 this year they'll only focus on midranges yes there will be a snapdragon 8 gen 3 but no full on flagships

Those who say 21:9 is a gimmick have no idea what their talking about yes it's more expensive to make but it clearly had advantages in gaming, loading social media and watching movies but sony implemented this too early most apps weren't optimized for this ratio for example TikTok had cropped sides.Go to the Xperia subreddit, you can find 80-90% of current sony users say 21:9 was perfect. YOU GOT TO USE IT to know it's advantages. Unfortunately the majority who comment it's a good move have never even touched an xperia lol

They'll probably bring it back if they sell more phones this year that would make costs of custom ordering them go down they did the same for the headphone jack when people complained about it

James.D, 27 Mar 2024you have to be taking the piss. there is physically no way ... moreDP-PDAF does not exist.

It is either dual pixel or phase detection.
Also, type of AF is determinated when sensor is made, you cannot change.

Judging from design, it should be renamed into Galaxy Z XPeria1 VI.

Kai, 27 Mar 2024Yep. I guess then of the price of the Sony 5 VI will be... ... moreBuilt in ND filter? that'll just make the camera bump appear thicker and bulkier.

Why 19.5:9? I think 20:9 will be the greatest choice to cut the width at least 2mm narrower

they already said would give 5 years update

I am very happy that Sony is proposing a wider phone. When you grow older, narrow phones cause eye strain because fonts looks smaller. I already own an Xperia 1 III and I am willing to buy any brand that would propose:
                    1. a wider display (even if I have to give up the 4K display)
                    2. a 3.5mm jack
                    3. support for MicroSD (up to 2 TB)
                    4. eSIM and 5G.
I think Sony made it, which other competitors are not.

                      Oh Sony.
Your phones having less width than most other phones is your unique point Sony. It makes your phone easier to handle.

Funny how these OEMs with unique form factors are giving up just to be another typical slab phone. Asus going ultra, and Sony going regular. And then they will wonder why their sales are not improving much.

I'd rather the phone is about 6.6 inches just for extra screen sake. Would fit perfectly for an overall device.

Kai, 27 Mar 2024Yep. I guess then of the price of the Sony 5 VI will be... ... moreAsking more for less when you can't do more is dumb. The Xperia 1 line is a mini camera with editing possibility. It looks dull because you're supposed to be artistic. Smartphones are asking for a full frame camera experience but when it delivers people says it's dumb? In the end they're asking for a DSLR after edit experience which is pretty much offered in their creative suits. But they don't care about features they just want a Pixel with Xperia body.
Get a Pixel if you want a Pixel photo. Or a Poco since that's what you want. Xperias are a niche, enthusiasts smartphone. Not for everybody to get one.

BIGSHORT, 27 Mar 2024Xperia 5 VI (just 8GB) is competition for Xiaomi Redmi seri... morehonestly I would easily pay extra for a 256/12 5 VI. I'm a heavy multitasker with my phone and as such I would really like 12GB RAM, like I have on my current S21 Ultra. it's been a while since I have used an 8GB RAM phone but my 6GB Pixel 6a doesn't remotely keep up.

Kai, 27 Mar 2024Yep. I guess then of the price of the Sony 5 VI will be... ... moreyou have to be taking the piss. there is physically no way anyone could make the 5 V for 400 euros, let alone Sony, who is a far more premium brand than the likes of Xiaomi or OnePlus. I have to admit that Sony's phones are expensive but these prices are totally unrealistic and your wants are pretty weird too. Imho I'd want Sony to add back in the telephoto on the 5 series (3x optical LYT-500, f/2.0, OIS, DP-PDAF), increase the software support to 3/4 years (the only way that Google and Samsung can do 7 is due to them selling larger volumes of phones - Samsung selling more phones outright but Google making a large profit margin per device. Sony is a niche OEM and as such cannot economically do this), increase display brightness, slim down bezels on at least the 5 and 1, and bring the ribbed frame to the 5. if they do that I can die a happy Sony loving man.

I'll take security updates and open-ness to modding over silly manifacturers' updates.

Why do you worry about updates? You'd, along with most Samsung fans, change phones anyway by the 3rd year. 🤭

Thanks Sony for not listening to the selfie and punch hole fans

Thanks Sony for not giving into the selfie and bezel police, and punch hole afficionados..."so the loss in vertical space doesn’t come at the cost of stereo speakers and a front facing camera that’s in the bezel rather than the screen." Wider is better.
