This camera island nonsense should stop

      $1,380

David 040882, 18 Apr 2024So it's a 1 inch variable aperture retractable camera,... moreAnd with sensor-shift OIS too. That one should be super handy when shooting 2x lossless zoom pics.

Two things occur to me. WHY? Why not just make phones fatter. People used to carry jumbo-sized mobile phones bigger than an old-style Telephone handset, and they sold out at astronomical prices. So the too-thin, must get thinner tablet, laptop and smartphone are not there to save weight or the planet, but to stop us getting higher quality results from larger sensors in our smartphones driven by whats new and what looks "cool".
And second, I bet the ultrawide is completely unable to do the sweep panoramas old ultrawides on old smartphones can do....held back by quad-bayer interpolation and a refusal to replicate the Zero-D tech camera lenses now have that have all but eliminated any visible distortion from even a 12mm lens .
As it appears that the major manufacturers have already pushed quad-bayer as far as they want it to go
,such unecessary gimmicry as here that of course "justifies" yet more price hikes is the next way to generate profits from the plebeian, it would appear....

For anyone who doesn't understand what's fork:
"In software engineering, a project fork happens when developers take a copy of source code from one software package and start independent development on it, creating a distinct and separate piece of software."

Side notes: One UI, ColorOS, HyperOS, etc. are NOT Android fork.
