        3 years is more than enough.
        Since you cant zupdate hardware you will not teach new troicks your old phone.
        After lot of software updates you will be unable to run latest games and apps of that time on outdated hardware.
        Since most people at least here in EU and probbably in US buy on a 2 years contract from network carrier and then sell their device when it still have decent value to buy new one, having tons of updates makes no sense.
        For calls and text feature phone s good enough.
        With 5-10 years of updates your smartphone becomes feature phone good for calls and text and will laggs on everything else.

          Black and white how hard it is for sony to make some colorful phones. The colors are so uninspiring.

            Old even still supported phone which would be unable to run latest apps and games of that time will be useless.
            3 years is more than enough for every brand even for google.
            Having like 7 or 10 years of support with outdated hardware unable to run even brownser without laggs and huge delay is stupid.

              And even if it does you can place a virtual black bar there and it'll still have a bigger screen-to-body-ratio than the 1 VI.

                Moreover, look at how much smaller the display has been until now.

                S22+: 6.6 inches, 105.3 cm2 (~88.3% screen-to-body ratio)

                Xperia 1 V: 6.5 inches, 98.6 cm2 (~84.2% screen-to-body ratio)

                The S22+ for example has just 0.1" more length in diagonal but almost 7cm2 more screen surface.
                When you put an extremely narrow 21:9 display in a phone AND BEZELS (!!!) than you can't advertise it for its cinema experience (not to mention the 4k resolution which didn't make any difference). That is just too small.
                The punch hole is the smallest problem here.
                I am glad Sony dropped the 21:9 ratio. At least the huge bezels won't influence the screen size so much (i hope so).

                And on my huge S22 Ultra I don't even notice the punch hole. It is just a part of the status bar. On Sony phones you have the bezel with the selfie camera and an additional status bar beneath it which takes even more space away.

Moreover, they have been sticking to a laughable 12MP 1/1.7" sensor until 2022 (Xperia 1 IV) and called their phones professional cameras for professional photographers. Their continuous zoom was also a joke since image quality dropped when you switch to higher optical zoom. The Mark V was a good step forward with the larger sensor and much better light-gathering capabilities.
                          But if Sony wants to become mainstream, they still have to do a lot of work.
