Jimbini, 08 May 2024I went last year for PixelBixel (device is shit tbh), as th... more2 years is for OS. One extra year for security. So 3 years total. People still are dumb not to understand that 2 years are OS only and not the entirety of the phone. But even with 5 years of OS, pretty sure nobody would buy it. So better just leave it to the people who actually wants it 🤷🏻♂️.

Here is what I like and what annoys me: Sony is a huge company with many subsidiaries, they have literally tons of assets, thousands of first-class engineers, scientists and experts of all sorts. They have top notch camera division, the have a #1-ranked sensor division, they have the best algorithms in camera industry with regards to machine-learning assisted object recognition, autofocus and what not.
They even put the great goodies such as 3.5mm jack and microSD socket into their phones, making people happy who use them.
But why on earth they just don't make a flagship phone with a camera capable of competing with the best of Vivo, Huawei, Google, etc.
And no, having to set everything manually is not exactly an excuse, because 99% of photos taken with a smartphone a casual snapshots where you only have a fraction of second time to pull your phone, direct it to the scene and press the button in order to catch the image.
While all serious cameraphone competitors have gone with an 1" main sensor and vivo announced their latest X100 ultra coming wih a whopping 1/1.4" tele-sensor (85 mm equiv), Sony is still sticking around with an 1/1.4" main camera. And the latest Xperias V were not even able to capture a Macro....what is this...?
Sony could easily improve on their camera hardware and put better and larger sensors as well as better lenses into their camera. Under the SOny umbrella they have all the parts and all the expertise they need to assemble the best, most advanced, most gorgeous cameraphone ever.
But why don't they just do it? Why have the improvements in camera technology between Xperia 1 and Xperia 1V been so incremental?
Come on, dear people of Sony, just do it, finally!! Yes, you can!!

Anonymous, 08 May 2024Unbinning does not exist. Whatever the word may be for "switching to the sensors native high resolution and cropping from there" is then.
Most companies would call it "lossless" zoom
As it is a digital sensor crop without losing resolution or having to upscale anything.

Yhi, 08 May 2024Why do you people care about software support when you will... moreNot everybody buys a brand new Sony Xperia in June when it costs $$$$. It is a smart idea to buy it in January for $$$ and expect the updates for the next 2-3 years.

Is that supposed to be the back of the phone or are the buttons on the left side? I just hope we aren't forced to use google services again and are offered a better album app and messaging app.

dcdev, 08 May 2024Why not? It looks possible with a small sensor.
But I pref... moreif thez do it with an 1/4 Sensor, then thez could also just go for an
1/2 Sensor and have a 1/4 Sensor as crop at 170mm, while having better quality at lower zoom levels.
Or use an 1/1.4 Periscope like Vivo does.
I just hope if it is continuous, it's 1/2.5 in size or larger.
