Apple blocks UTM SE PC emulator from app stores, says it's not a retro console

10 June 2024
Apple recently started allowing emulators on iOS, but only a restricted subset of emulators gets the ok.

Your point is valid, provided the person has no preference of OS.

The thing with most iPhone users is simply the PREFERENCE for ios.

It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of android but it is simple and has a great eco system for those who are invested in their products. No other manufacturer makes a device with iOS.

I don't know why this simple fact flies over the heads of so many android users.

It's all about preference and in this day and age you shouldn't be telling people what to do with their money and which phone they should buy. They are not breaking the law and nor are they going against the culture by buying an iPhone. So why does it irritate the android users unless they secretly feel bad about their supposedly awesome, feature rich, highly customizable devices?

I have both ios and android devices. But I much prefer the ios devices for use at work and busy days. I'm not a fan of apple , Google.or Microsoft attitudes towards consumers but out if the 3 I personally feel that apple is the lesser evil but ymmv.

Maybe apple users are working hard l, actually making bank whike the android fan boys are coping in these forums? I don't know...

Apple TV already mirrors your iPhone/iPad screen wirelessly both in a good enough visual fidelity & a low enough latency. (It feels as if "Wireless HDMI" already exists & it will probably get better with future iterations of the WiFi standard)
2- Wireless controllers exist + Sliding form factors with a built-in controller such as the Sony Xperia Play / PSP Go already exist + Somebody on YouTube have already made a custom controller case for their iphone.
3- Future foundries from TSMC/Samsung with 2nm processes could reduce heat & power consumption to a great degree it becomes negligible.
4- Quallcomm could start a completely new lineup of SOCs that don't focus on higher performance, but rather power efficiency & thermal management. (The upcoming switch is actually using an ARM processor for processing, not graphical procesing as it has a dedicated Tegra GPU from Nvidia whereas phones can only utilize an integrated arm GPU)

You literally don't even need a display!!! I've already seen phones with a built-in projector! I've seen AR glasses that can simulate the quality of a 4K TV. (not to mention your 6" phone is already a great screen)

What cables are you talking about? 🤔

2- I never implied that a smartphone can have the same quality as a PS5 or an RTX 4090.
3- If you look at the Nintendo switch it can already play PS3 era games. If you look at the Steam Deck, it can already play both PS3/PS4 era games & a few optimized PS5 titles.
4- Android phones have already been able to emulate Nintendo Switch.
5- Android phones have already succeeded in emulating win-32 x86 versions of many PS3 era games using Winlator.
5- Virtual Machines / Wine / Proton / etc still allow you to mod your game files just like on a PC. (You can ALREADY mod your game files with Winlator... it has a built-in file manager)
6- Money speaks for itself: Why do I need to spend $500 extra on a PS5/PC if I know I'll be just as entertained if I were to play PS2/PS3 era titles?
7- A lot of people are still playing old PS2/PS3 era games. Just look at YouTube: People still talk about Silent Hill 2-3-4, GTA 3-VC-SA-4-5, Bully, etc etc... INFACT gaming studios are planning to remake those games & sell them again for $70 on a PS5.
8 - Money speaks for itself: Why spend $500 extra on a PS5 when you already have a phone that can meet your humble gaming needs? 3D Graphics have stagnated ever since 2013. Infact, 50% of Playstation users are on PS4.
9- Why do you have an issue with people who want to make their phones more useful? Why do you feel the need to mock the idea of making phones more useful?

It made sense when update policies where shorter, now even more viable due to lenghty supports. My D8300 Ultra phone was less than 300 usd and I have no issues replacing it in 3 years, even if Android 17 was a guaranteed update for it.

Besides, most iPhone updates were just incrementally introduced ones that already existed in other products.

Or could've been added earlier but Apple just had to drip feed them slowly to pass off an image that they are innovative.

Google also keeps pushing updates in phones long abandoned by the maker thru updating of core services.

And my apologies for the sarcasm in my first reply. I think we are about 95% on the same page when it comes to this topic. Even the difference of opinion regarding Apple, I'm saying Apple is 💯 ethical or consumer friendly. But they are relatively better when it comes to consumer data related practices, when compared to Google and Microsoft.
If blackberry was still around ( as a phone maker), I would have jumped onto one in a heart beat ( legacy or touch os, legacy os preferred ) but they are no more 😒.

As for Google, for thebpast year or so they have been locking up Google accounts left and right due to their famous 2factor authentication bug. Basically it for some reason marks ones account as suspicious, asks one to login again. When the owner's mobile number is used and the attempt fails because "they can't reliably be sure it is you the owner", even though one has the user name , pwrd and uses the same WiFi to login. These 'failed' attempts add onto the phone number and the reset period grows from 4 hours to 7 hours to 1 week to 2 weeks and so on, with no customer support to inquire about this. The complain threads on Google gets locked with some generic responses. Eventually one loses the Google account with all their emails and documents ...
This has been going on for some time and many have complained about losing their Google accounts, including small business owners, but no one seems to care, not even the law makers.... the ones who bravely force apple to 'open up'.

None of the wide eyed android fan boys here seem to know about this issue, let alone care about it. They just go on harping about all the 'options android has more than apple' and how apple should be banned and fined while turning a blind eye towards the misdeeds of Google.

That's what I keep calling out. I hope you understand. But we are more or less on the same page 🍻.

People with money can do whatever they want and spend it however they want as long as they are withing the law and the cultural norms of that society.

'People with money cannot spend it the way they want 'is straight out of the marxist textbook.

I said it quite plainly. Some people who buy a phone, be it 200USD OR 800USD or even more, might just want it to act as a reliable communications device over a long period (7 to 8 years).

Speaking from experience, iPhone don't have all th3 fancy functions that android has but the ones they have work well enough and they sure do last a LONG time, thanks to their relatively light OS (as a result of the former ) and their over powered A series processors. My old iPhone 6 outlasted a galaxy S4, Xperia SP (?), Galaxy A71 & a Lenovo Y5x series.
Also, even after software version support ended, apple is known to provide security updates upto even 9 years.

As for 200 USD android phones, just name a single 200 USD brand new android device that gets security updates for 8 to 9 years, has excellent cameras, doesn't have ads baked into the OS , doesn't have a cheap virtual proximity sensor , provides better security and less data collection *out of the box* , has very fast internal memory types and good build quality???
None comes to my mind. One would be better off buying a used iPhone model for a comparable price lol!

What I said was that people have the freedom to buy an iPhone if they want to and you need not be out here criticising their purchase decisions. Meanwhile you can be perfect happy with your super awesome Android with all those options. The fact that you have to come here and speak negatively about the iPhone seems like a major cope, that's all...

But that was on occasion, just to pass time. I never turned them.into a 'gaming rig'. They were still devices of communication first, even at that time.
The iPhone can handle advanced gaming just fine and it has a lot of high quality games on the app store. But it's also very good at doing the basics, like being a good communications device for thise who prefer just that.

For example, the iPhone have very good earpiece proximity sensors ( at least on my experience) to the virtual trash that Samsung uses in theirs where the screen doesn't lock upon keeping to ear, 90% of the time and believe me, little.things like that add up over time...
