EU to charge Apple under Digital Markets Act, impose a fine of up to $50 million per day

15 June 2024
It all has to do with the "core technology fee" it charges developers who don't want to distribute their apps through the App Store.

As with oppo and vivo court case with nokia happened and they withdrew from several european countries during it. Apple/Samsung sellouts and carriers don't help either and yes hostility is being fired up with the geopolitical situation.

Raj, 17 Jun 2024This is the beginning of the END OF APPLE.Not really.

Apple will find ways to either comply (30%) or weasel their way out (70%).
      "The calculations are modest"

Worse case, Apple will just take the ball and leave EU (& Japan).

ReaLogic, 15 Jun 2024I think you have to work out the numbers. Apple has 147,000... moreApple made 97 billion dollars of net profit last year, and as of 2023, they have 161,000 employees. If they gave all off them a $5 per hour raise, then at 40 hours a week and 48 weeks a year, that’s around 1.5 billion dollars. That sounds like a lot of money, but that’s only 1.6% of their net profit, so Apple definitely has the money to pay their employees better.

I for sure hope apple will get down from their "high-horse" as soon as possible, so the real competition can trive again, and not this dictator ethics garbage brand.

To cut losses they will need to cut personal down, and the more they cut the more they become un-interesting, the less they sell, and the vicious circle continue untill they file for bankruptcy. It makes no sense to wish them wrong, but i sure hope they will not be untop for any longer, i want to see European companies trive again in a much friendlier competition enviroment. Where apple does not sell 1 micro update for 1500 euros and call it "their innovation", and european companies are not affraid anymore to come out of the shadow.

Anonymous, 16 Jun 2024I just hope Apple will not leave EU market. Or at least mak... moreActually because of apple there is no innovation, also because of them their is less competition from actuall brands, not me too chinaware. And believe me, apple will never pull out of europe, even if it means to respect the law in EU, they make tones of money in europe. Anyway without apple, it will be quite the opposite, innovation will start again. Look at Fairphone and Swift, the only companies that actually innovated in the last 10 years after nokia being robbed and dismantle by the US companies that knew they will never stand a chance with nokia at comand. What do you mean no competition anyway? Asus, sony, pixel, fairphone, swiftphone, hmd(nokia), motorola, Emporia, gigaset, nothing. Most of them being european. So i actually see a market that is waiting to actually innovate once the Tyrant is taken down from the throne and put in the line with others. So in short, apple going down will mean more competition and innovation entering the market. I wpuld take that over apple existance, any day.

I just hope Apple will not leave EU market. Or at least make the iPhones less appealing in here. In EU we already see a decrease in some manufacturers interest.
I can't really find Realme/One Plus/Oppo/Vivo phones in Czechia anymore. Sony phones are so-so.
Basically if I want an Android phone is either a Xiaomi or a Samsung, maybe a Motorola or a Pixel. If Apple will leave too, or decrease their interest, EU will turn into a monopoly for Samsung, which will not be ok, as nobody will have the interest to innovate then.

What I am trying to say is that competition is good for consumers. The less competition we will have in EU, the less interesting smartphones will be in here.

Dom, 16 Jun 2024Apple made 97 billion dollars of net profit last year, and ... moreYes, they do have the cash. Like I was said I wasn't trying to justify their choice. I was pointing out why large companies would rather pay a CEO $10 million bonus instead of spending $300million or $1.5 billion in your case to increase worker's pay. Cause paying one person $10 million saves them hundreds of millions of dollars. A $5 increase for their workers in developed countries might happen, not for their workers in less developed countries, as $5 increase would totally skew the work force salary in those countries.

Apple develop their own eco system. While all android manufacturer are saving software cost be ause Google is handling the OS and the store.
Yes some do custom android versions but that's nothing compared to developing the OS it self.
So they get to charge a little more. Compared to the galaxy S series theyre not that bad. But also I don't like iOS for all the stupid restrictions. If I can get third party stores and a chrome /blink based browser I might switch.
The only reason I have an iPad is the M1 is soo much better for gaming than any galaxy tablet I had and I'm using an M1 tablet while I have a tab s9 yet the iPad is so much better. Also a lot of graphic apps are only on iPad , nothing like them on android
