PorkHotdog, 19 Jun 2024Name me one phone that is better than the 24ultraThe Vivo X100 Pro (which actually is as cheap as the Samsung Galaxy S24+), the Vivo X100 Ultra, the Vivo X Fold3 Pro (definitely *THE* foldable of the year), the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, etc.

The Vivo X100 Ultra specifically uses a gigantic 1/1.4"-type, 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor co-engineered by Samsung and Vivo together, paired with an 85mm lens developed by Zeiss, the famous German optics company who are so highly valued that they develop all of the optics for ASML's EUV machines for use in cutting edge processors. Get this: that Samsung sensor is basically 99% as good as your S24 Ultra's MAIN CAMERA, and then is somehow instead used on a telephoto that has a 3.7× optical zoom, and the sensor crops taken from the 16-to-1 pixel binning process can be used for up to 14.8× zoom without any significant loss in quality. And of course, this is BEFORE you get into digital zoom territory. Your S24 Ultra's main camera has no need for 4× zoom coming out of it when iy has a 3× telephoto, so that 200MP there is just a useless gimmick. This Vivo X100 Ultra uses it in an extremely meaningful way, and it outdoes your puny little phone by every metric imaginable.

Just take a look at what the likes of Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi and Huawei are offering at this price range. Literally the only thing Samsung has going for it is the stylus and Gorilla Glass Armour — which might not even be exclusive to Samsung's devices next year.

A lot of poors in the comments here. I will upgrade to the 25U as I've done every year since note4. If you can't afford to upgrade don't hate fr

All of the complaints I've heard about this kind of thing come from either the specific crowd of teenage girls who obsessively care about the smallest of imperfections yet somehow can't clean their face (and sure, it's not 100% avoidable at that age, but it's at least 90% avoidable) or the neckbeards that would look bad on a camera regardless of the resolution and regardless of whether it was a Full Frame sensor, an APS-H sensor, an APS-C sensor, a 1.5"-type sensor, a 4/3"-type sensor, a µ4/3"-type sensor, a 1"-type sensor, a 2/3"-type sensor (a.k.a a 1/1.56"-type sensor), a 1/2"-type sensor, a 1/2.5"-type sensor, a 1/3"-type sensor, a 1/3.5"-type sensor, a 1/4"-type sensor, a... etc.

The weirdest and most annoying part is that Vivo can't even have 50MP selfie cameras in their cheaper flagship phones (the Vivo X100 and Vivo X100 Pro both use a 32MP selfie camera; only the Vivo X100 Ultra uses a 50MP selfie camera), but they will happily have it in their mid-rangers.

If Sony announces a 50MP 1/2.5"-type sensor with dual-layer stacked CMOS technology (same kind as the one found on the LYT-T808), and an OEM uses it on a phone as a selfie camera, I will happily eat my boots, all of them. This would be nuts to have, it would absolutely revolutionise selfie cameras on phones.

I kinda wish all models would get a 50MP selfie camera with autofocus. Vivo and Tecno can do it in their midrangers, so surely Samsung can do it in their flagships?

Samsung is charging premium amount for s series but not delivering the the most modern cutting edge technology.i got no reason to upgrade from s22+ to s25+.I will go for Chinese brands atleast I am getting the best latest and cutting technology.bye bye samsung for making people fool for years.

Anton .el PAPI., 19 Jun 2024Then the fanboys say that Samsung doesn't imitate Appl... moreThere needs to be a third company that is a meaningful competitor. We're at a time in which the smartphone market is ruled by a duopoly, that being Samsung and Apple. We need someone else to also compete with them on a competitive and global level at lots of different price brackets. It doesn't matter who, it just needs to happen, and then Samsung and Apple will both feel the pinch and start innovating once again. Variable telephotos with continuous optical zoom and a long zoom range, for example, would completely break the current market if they're on even a semi-popular product in relation to total sales globally (sorry Sony, but you are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things and fail these criteria). Same would go for variable focal aperture (again, what is the global percentage of Huawei or Xiaomi users, for example? Also, Xiaomi is very China- and India-centric, and Huawei is confined to just China).

There also quite frankly isn't a lot left to do hardware-wise that isn't camera-related or display-related. AirJet Mini chips could be used in the future to provide almost completely silent active cooling that can be done in conjunction with an IP68 rating, and new silicon-carbon battery tech —and solid-state battery tech, but that should arrive in consumer electronics in the mid-2030s by the sound of things — and stacked battery tech will massively increase battery capacity, but apart from that, I honestly can't think of anything else innovative on the hardware-side that isn't to do with cameras or displays, at least not for bar phones. Rollable phones are a whole different beast though, and they could revolutionise phones altogether.

Then the fanboys say that Samsung doesn't imitate Apple at all!! Even their strategies they want to imitate... That's why we are stuck in the same thing

Looks like they're trying to really take over Apple in "innovation". Those sensors were already ageing and had issues on the S23, keeping them for another 2 years is just ridiculous.

Rookie Man, 19 Jun 2024Just name it S24 2025 not S25. Because there is no signific... moreJust like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, which has had 3 versions, including one for this year.

Since the hardware inside the S24 is almost the same as the S22, we could call the S25 the S22 (2025 Edition), and likewise we could call the S25+ the S22+ (2025 Edition).

Just name it S24 2025 not S25. Because there is no significant upgrade.

So the lower models will actually only be a soc upgrade in Scandinavia. Everything else stays s24.

Be r... moreWhich the market should reject, because variable telephotos exist on phones. LG Innotek's variable telephoto design should hopefully become more commonplace soon, and I wonder if the reason why it hasn't yet is because Sony might have signed an exclusivity deal with them, since who would otherwise buy Sony phones if the variable telephoto was commonplace, outside of the small number of consumers who will buy it because they can't live without a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot? I myself hate that both of those things aren't on phones anymore, but I just use adapters instead, and most people who feel the same do the same thing as me anyway.
