IpsDisplay, 23 Jun 2024I have to scratch my head when people compare Harmony to... moreUghhh.. I only talk about the possibility & challenges if Huawei decide to bring this to the global market..

I never said that this will fail on China.. I never said anything negative about Huawei efforts.

I want to see how will Huawei tackle the challenges if they ever decide to bring this on the global market. And yes Google & Microsoft are the major developers. Huawei need their apps to be working on the OS or else how will you attract the current user from android & ios camp.

For example Youtube, Huawei need google to make those app working for them. You can argue that youtube can be open on web browser but it will not get the same user experience from the app. Plus what's the point of having a smart devices if you just use the browser? Fyi, Windows Phone never had an official Google apps like Youtube. Its a fair comparison as one of the reasons why windows phone failed was due to lack of apps. Even Instagram app never pass the beta stage on windows phone. History will repeat itself if Huawei follow Microsoft footstep, without any major developers backing the OS, it will be real hard.

And once again I reminded you that I only talk about one of the possible future for the OS. As we all know this New Harmony is for the China Only market and still in Beta. But if Huawei want to make an impact, I believe they might have some plan to bring this to the global market.

        Harmony to windows failure

        Last time I checked

        1) china doesn't run play store at all
        2) is the biggest smartphone market in the world
        3) Chinese govt literally Funds Chinese companies

It's just lazy thinking harmony will have the same fate, harmony is impossible to fail

The ecosystem around Chinese development is just too massive

Harmony is already in the electric cars... And China's byd is already top dog in that space why do you think the solution to global adoption is primarily Microsoft and Google.. ironically Microsoft failed global success and Google struggles in china

Anonymous, 23 Jun 2024People like these in the comment section are the reason why... moreThe problem is that for 3 yeas now Huawei had fantastic hardware with horrible software, while demanding high-tier prices - if you're going to have a big compromise in the user experience, you need to reflect it in the price.
As for this new approach, we'll see how far it gets outside of China, there is a reason we have a duopoly right now (interoperability with existing accounts and hardware is a HUGE priority for the vast majority of people).

jiyen235, 23 Jun 2024so Huawei's making themselves even more niche outside ... moreAt this point, might as well go China only. Trying to serve international markets without Google Play is simply a futile attempt. Besides, Honor is there with complete Google Play support, so maybe Huawei did make the right decision to go all in on China focused software.

So Huawei is all in in making their phones to target only the Chinese market. Oh well, they have Honor to serve international markets anyway.

Soon or later Huawei will make a final working version which will bbe available for everyone not just chinese or Asians.
Then i will gladly switch from google to Harmony. Anything better than Prison OS IOS or horrible samsung UI which runs 150 apps from the start from which like 60 belongs to google and another 80-90 which belongs to samsung.
                No thanks.
Gad there are exist brands like Motorola with pure android experience with free from Bloatware UI and OS.

Anonymous, 23 Jun 2024People like these in the comment section are the reason why... moreWell you cant teach people new tricks because they not see the forset because of trees.
When you understand this you understand and realise the problem of the modern world.

jiyen235, 23 Jun 2024so Huawei's making themselves even more niche outside ... moreB ro you funny everything which brings developer money is good for them.
New OS is definitely good for them they will fight who brings better something to new OS.
Its like Chinese Xiaomi sells more devices than Apple because they are lot cheaper.
Quality compared to price is a win win.
Not everybody is willing to pay much more for worse specs by Samsung Apple Sony or Google.
                    Thats just example.
You buy a Lenovo Laptop for 1500 eur because you can afford it and have exactly same specs like laptop from Apple for 4500 eur.
Yes it will last maybe 4
5 years not 10. But After 5 years its gets too old to learn new tricks and play latest top notch games. So you will replace it sme will happens with Apple laptopp which can alst 10 years but after 5 will not run everything because of outdated Hardware and lack of ram.

Radu Iulian, 23 Jun 2024In Europe Never?Difficult to know for sure but there has been supposedly 'official' talk of that happening. HarmonyOS is already available on Tablets, watches, routers, earbuds etc but a concerted effort is needed in many areas to lay a bed for potential success.

That would include bolstering all the cloud infrastructure to make GMS completely unnecessary. To do that successfully it would be an idea for Huawei to place an official complaint with the EU explaining how apps requiring GMS actually harm competition when running on systems without GMS and that the lack of GMS itself is an external geopolitical manouvre to stifle competition.

It would be very difficult for the EU to turn a blind eye to what's happening now that the DMA/DSA are in force.

On the Huawei side, they need to bring far more of the product portfolio to the EU (Huawei door locks, lamps, fans, lighting, family storage etc).

They also need to make non-Huawei phones running HMS and AppGallery and tied to Huawei IDs carry more functionality.

For example, try logging into Huawei Cloud from an Honor phone and compare the experience to running the same options from a Huawei phone. It's severely limited on the Honor phone.

There is no reason whatsoever that the Honor phone gives Google Drive as a backup option and not Huawei Drive, if the user has HMS installed and an active HuaweiID on the phone.

Anton .el PAPI., 23 Jun 2024Blah blah blah... it looks like an iOS clone! as was EmuiWhat something looks like (to you) doesn't mean it is like that in reality.

EMUI has always been a mix of different things and has always done far more than iOS.

In fact iOS has been implementing features found for years on Android/EMUI/HarmonyOS systems.

Look no further than the screen mirroring feature presented at. WWDC this year which has been a staple on Huawei devices for years or the myriad of 'new' iOS customisation options that get brought to iOS every single year.

It's almost reached the point where iOS is more like Android/EMUI/HarmonyOS than the other way around.

On the software side, it seems to be a the child between android and iOS 😅

after 4 years of being "sanctioned", this Huawei can break US sanctions with their own Kirin, HarmonyOS, and other Chinese made than western suppliers 🔥🔥

they settled iPhone down in their own marketing too 🔥
