Samsung unveils new Pro Plus and Evo Plus microSD cards with up to 1TB capacity

01 August 2024
They use a new, more power efficient 28nm controller, compared to the 55nm controller on older cards. The new controller also promises improved durability.

Anonymous, 01 Aug 2024You have no idea how many Switch players would want a lot o... moreOnly a small minority do that. I'm not saying there's no one doing it but I believe most people who own a PS5 do that install and delete thing. I know a lot of friends and relatives who do that and the only one I know who doesn't do that is an enthusiast who likes tinkering, he jailbroke his PS5 and does a lot of stuff which I'm not too familiar with and so most likely likes having more of his games.

Idk man when on a PS5 it's so easy to just have like 5-8-ish games you like and delete the rest I actually don't see the problem. I speak this as someone who owns a PC with 11 TB of storage. On your phone you can do so much more than a PS5 AND that PS5 is a disk based console so it's even easier to just not upgrade storage. That's why I said the PS5 users for the most part are fine with the storage. I'm not saying they shouldn't increase the base 1 TB storage, no not at all, I want them to provide 2-4 TB of storage for the same price one day. But I was just saying there's no NEED for that.

Would you believe they are promoting the equivalent of disc changing in the current decade? By telling others to just install only the games that they need and then delete those that they don't?

Vita owner said the same thing. That 64gb is more than enough and just make room for your games. But they shut up when hacks came and we got to install up to 1Tb cards lmao.

                      From wikipedia:
                      microSD Express
In February 2019, the SD Association announced microSD Express.[107] The microSD Express cards offer PCI Express and NVMe interfaces, as the June 2018 SD Express release did, alongside the legacy microSD interface for continued backwards compatibility. The SDA also released visual marks to denote microSD Express memory cards to make matching the card and device easier for optimal device performance.[108]

jiyen235, 01 Aug 2024This is like producing the grippiest racing slick tires yet... moreA 1 TB card would be nice for the successor of the Switch.

This is like producing the grippiest racing slick tires yet only allowing you to use it on a Toyota Prius or something?

What's the point of such an immense product if you've got little to no use for it? How many people are gonna need 1 TB cards for the Nintendo Switch? Heck the PS5 comes with 1 tb base storage and people are fine with that, no one does anything exceptional on the Switch.

Cameras don't even come with microSD card slots. People who use action cams don't NEED fast speeds anyways. It's just weird to me. Ultra phones nowadays top out at 1 TB when the S20 Ultra was praised cus you could use 512 GB and then expand it to 1.5 TB. Quite "Ultra". Shows a lot about how mainstream the "flagship" phones have become. People use the Ultra cus it's an Ultra, not cus they need the features. They'd be happy with a 64 GB iPhone X if you told them that it's a Pro Max and they'd be able to flaunt it to others/have blue texts.

This is what annoys me the most. We've hit peak SD cards yet we can't use them because we don't have SD card slots in phones unless you purchase a phone below £250.

It's even more ridiculous that we have the ability to shoot 4k 60fps on some of these flagships which takes up more storage yet cheaper phones do only 1080p 30fps.

I'll be open minded here. Even though I would like more phones with headphone jacks I would rather have more phones with SD cards for the reason stated above based on how much customers value video and photos. We've got good wireless buds with good sound quality and recently I've found wired headphones a bit inconvenient as they end up tangled. You can remove the headphone jack but please add SD card compatibility for phones

And yet, they won't put microSD card slots in their phones.

Nintendo Switch already has a cartridge for physical games but why does it still ask to download tens of GB to microSD?
