UIQ is going nowhere, Sony Ericsson are done with it

22 Oct, 2008
Sony Ericsson doomed the Symbian UIQ platform by publicly stating at the Symbian Smartphone Show in London that "UIQ didn't attract the operator, manufacturer or consumer interest needed to stop it from failing"...

To those who thanks SE that it makes good device, I'm saying the device is good, but the implementation is bad.

To those who hates using their SE UIQ device, it's because you have not update to the latest o/s that fixes many initial bugs, and you have not go further hacking your phone to make it even better.
Those who have hacked the phone enjoys top music and call quality, better menu / interface, better camera setting and result.
This is something SE could do, but they simply refuse to do so.

Go search for it.

    SE kills UIQ.

UIQ is the best platform today, but the inability of SE to deliver it well kills it. That statement above is simply ridiculous and strengthen believe that SE simply runs away from it's failure instead of standing up and fix it.

SE is one stupid phone that delivers the receiver background noises alone except the voice of the person who speaks.
UIQ and symbian are other stupids.
Nice to see fight between two stupids. We can have time pass.

UIQ is dead...as far as SonyEricsson is concern. SE wants to move on...and so should we.

At last! Good on Sonyericsson. I have P990i and I hate using it. Now I'm looking for Windows Moblie, I think it better.

Before UIQ's demise, there were three top Smartphone OS: Symbian S60, Windows Mobile, Palm 3.5 Garnet, and Symbian UIQ.

Palm OS have been dormant lately and the competition is pretty much between the Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile. As far as sales go, Symbian S60 is on the top of it's game with Windows Mobile trailing in second, and the Apple iPhone somewhere and remotely behind, and android even more distantly behind. again, this is in terms of sales.

3rd party app-wise the ranking is: Win Mo >Symbian S60

The establishment of the Symbian Foundation which releases control and development of S60 from Nokia should theoretically open the S60 to new developments and much exciting features in the future. I really don't know if Nokia has now become altruistic or is there a vested interest somewhere?

To be Frank, The symbian OS in the earlier time are the best ones, S60 1st few series. The later versions are simply sucks, Slow, Less programs, Hangs.... The UIQ infact no much difference, I dun see a difference between UIQ & Symbian s60, I think consumers is just moving along with each other.

Its a sad news. I was planning to buy a G700/G900. Nobody other than SE itself is responsible for this. They neither priced any of the phones competitively nor did the marketing. The prices of the phones were not coming down as in the case of N-series with Nokia.
And they(SE) cannot claim that the devices were superior in anything. Display quality, sound quality and camera quality for all of the UIQ phones were always far behind the competition.
Now let them try with Windows Mobile. All the best SonyEric!

I see nothing wrong with UIQ. I like it. I used to have SE M600 and now I have nokia n95. I really miss my old touch screen of M600 in many occasion. In fact i missed so much thatI recently bought new prepaid sim card for my old M600 and now use both phones. I think UIQ is stable system (more than windows mobile)....needs little bit of tweaks. I don't know why SE wants to put it in RIP....may be because of financial reason. I think its about personal taste. Some may not like but there r lots of ppl like me who love UIQ.

It's a pain, uiq have better stability on multitasking than s60 and w.mobile, uiq, for me, is the best software for business phones as my SE P1i. is so sad that a effective software need to dead, against the poor multimedia operative softwares that only works on multimedia phones.

I used to have both P800 and P990i. They are both great handsets and it's really sad to hear that UIQ is about to rest for good. S60 really killed the living hell out of UIQ. Lack of 3rd party developers ultimately led to the demise of a wonderful OS. Time to move on.
