UIQ is going nowhere, Sony Ericsson are done with it

22 Oct, 2008
Sony Ericsson doomed the Symbian UIQ platform by publicly stating at the Symbian Smartphone Show in London that "UIQ didn't attract the operator, manufacturer or consumer interest needed to stop it from failing"...

$v€n, 23 Oct 2008I'm glad. My advice is to ban all OS systems other than Mi... moreWhy? WinMo is so ugly without amazing stuff to hide it like touch flo.
As of Feb 07, symbian has 67% of the smart phone market, windows with 13%, and blackberry with 10%.

ive have all the P series

P800 was new so it was ok
    P900 was a good improvement
P910 was very stable and fast
    P990 WAS SHOCKINGLY BAD
P1i,,,, as much as the P990 was crap, i LOVE my P1i

But the reality of it all is: UIQ was/is a slightly messy UI (i am the biggest fan of it, but have to admit it). i can say that, because i work in the CPW in UK and selling one in not easy. i have often provided free personal advise/help to people i have converted to UIQ after sale through customers contacting me through my personal email.

so, SE was never going to make UIQ profitable!
it is therefore a smart move as they NEED to concentrate hard to make Symbian Foundation work for them as everyone are rising their game.... from WM to Google and Apple.

the winners of course are always us, the consumer, as they battle it out and improve their OS.

      I'm glad.
My advice is to ban all OS systems other than Microsoft Windows Mobile Pro,
wich in my opinion is the bets Operating System on the market.
Take an axample of the Xperia, wich made me trust Sony Ericsson again.

Thats good news because now we have S60 with touch UI in Nokia 5800 & soon we will see many Samsung phones with S60 touch..this will reduce the misleading and help developers "when they develop for S60 they dont care touch or not UIQ or not because it will run on any device because they are all S60".

Bye Bye UIQ...SE dont deserve you and its good for you to die and dont live under the protection of this company.

I'm just glad its over! I can't stand it! Its the WROST OS ever created. I had it with Nokia and SE, I wouldn't buy a Phone with UIQ on it. My next Phone will either be iPhone or GPhone.

Too bad for UIQ. I hope that Sony Ericsson shall use S60 instead Windows Mobile.

Well after all it was Sonyericsson's falt that UIQ had such a bad reputation... The platform had a good start, but with the p990 things got really bad...

only UIQ? i would say that SE is done for it.
Bring back Ericsson and then the world will be safe, in terms of mobile phones

Good Decision for SE, I had my P990i for 16mos now and everyday was a headache. A lot of bugs that wasn't fixed. No Followup support afterwards. And then they had P1i, after upgrading the RAM still the same old problems was there but just hidden due to the system response which is much faster than P990i. Looking forward on using windows mobile cause I've been A Fan of SE eversince. I had K608i and W890i aside from P990i and was very satisfied of it.

I was a big fan and very hopeful for UIQ and sad to learn of its impending demise. And SE have only themselves to blame for it falling apart. Just cannot fathom their logic (or the lack of it) in crippling the devices. Just to give a few examples - 3G but no EDGE, EDGE but no 3G, 3G but no Wifi, walkman phone without autofocus camera, K series and cyber shot camera phones but no megabass, no dedicated audio chip on walkman phones, videos in QCIF resolution, ad nauseum. And as if that is not enough, overpricing the devices over and above handsets with similar or many times much better specifications and insanely expensive accessories.

WTF is the matter with you SE? You think you can always command a premium just because of the Sony name? Do you really intend to make mobile phones or jump into oblivion? Wake up and smell the coffee... before you RIP forever

                            @Mufaddal

ํYou are right, SE can doom the love you start with the products anytime.

UIQ that have a little supported programs will have no new programs after this news.

Now UIQ is realy R.I.P. after its haft-death long time ago.

Same with SE, UIQ R.I.P. means that smartphone's market of SE also R.I.P. too.

I am so much dishearted with SE's decision. I just loved SE mobile phones for this. I loved SE's UIQ interface. It was so much good. I just dont know what to say.

I wished so much if SE introduced Touch interface similar to Iphone on UIQ...Then I guarantee it would be the best platform ever...

I am dishearted yar... I dont know I started loving P1i. And am anxiously waiting for X1-Xperia, but with this decision I have to give second thought because SE can doom the love you start with the products anytime :(

I agree with a comment below.

                                  Nokia have S60

                                  Samsung have S60

                                  Motorola have Motomagx(Linux)

SE doesn't have one, same with LG but LG came with overload of feature.

UIQ had face of symbian but with touch as all Se cells had, but Nokia sales bought down UIQ than SE disappointing sales. Yet to grasp that SE with Symbian firmware reverse gear.

I think today SE are lacking of smart phone devices.

WM isn't count, it is PDA that doesn't have extra camera and music features.
