o, 23 Aug 2024who doesn't love a uninstaller think chinese junk andr... moreAlready existed for a long time and it's called Universal Android debloater for PC. And there's also mobile versions like ladb.

And most Chinese phones these days allow uninstalling of most of their system apps so there's almost no need for these for the average consumer.

If you look at what Parisa Tabriz said most of this is like EU vs ROW so even though the options are available there is unlikely to be any serious development.

who doesn't love a uninstaller think chinese junk android phones or replace chrome with Firefox is more secure and respects your privacy unblundle

Are the EU going to do the same to android? Because you can't uninstall Chrome or YouTube. And Chrome has a much bigger monopoly than Safari.

What about Android? Will you be able to delete the manufacturer's built-in bloatware/adware/spyware *cough* Xiaomi *cough* with just a few clicks? Maybe even be given a choice when you boot your phone for the first time? What about Google's own bloat?
Or is the EU focusing on IOS because it's a closed ecosystem (you're stuck with Apple's softwares and can't modify or replace it)?
Suppose you don't have the know-how to (*shouldn't be forced to bother with*) ADB to remove apps you don't want to have on your Android phone?
One can only hope that Chinese Android manufacturers will be civilized about it like Apple here. Hopefully the EU will get around to dealing with them.

nemesis8, 23 Aug 2024'allowed to delete camera and photos' why would ... moreAndroid has a lot of open source apps that are better then official ones, with no internet access and more functions. Like Fossify gallery app. Camera app would be more of a problem especially for Iphones, but probably that is why they fo it. They allow you to change camera app, because they know nobody will do it, and instead won't allow what they should allow, so nobody can say they do not allow... kind of how apple works since EU finaly started to pull their ears off.

Whatevs, 23 Aug 2024Whatever EU. You think all users will change the default? M... moreThe plan here is to allow competition to exist fairly, not to make no one use Apple build in Apps.

But will any Android phone get these options? Will you be able to delete Android phone manufacturer's built-in bloatware/adware/spyware *cough* Xiaomi *cough*? What about Google's own bloat?

GAMIR3DH, 23 Aug 2024The EU is basically turning iPhones into Androids, one step... moreYou can already delete more build in apps on iOS than on android. I was really suprised but that when I switched. You can’t delete only Phone, Contacts, Messages, Safari, Camera and photos.

Blurring the line between ios and android. Not bad.

EU is basically ruling Android become dominated phones

So nope it is not turning ios into android, it is just making small changes to tear down the walls of apple. IOS will remain a locked down mess till the end of it, or till apple finds other means of sucking money from their users pockets. Then they will suddently talk about how OS freedom is important and how they want their users to be free to use and configure their phones as pleased. So they will release ios40 for freedom, something like that.
