Sony is trying to be Apple. I bought Poco M6 pro for someone last week. For sells for £179 comes with 8gb RAM , 512GB ROM and 120Hz adaptable refresh rate. Sony needs to realise the mobile phone market is not the same as the game console market.

while sony try to hold into compact midranger, the financial report speaks otherwise, and as much as compact user try to cling, we know the end is near. only compact high end left for the take. Sony has part to be blamed too. they priced all of their devices too high, to compensate their usual work ethic of rewarding the artistic build. still, they did build ace lineup for their local fanboys

Both f1.8.
16 and 35mm.
16mm has option to output 24mm while the 35mm with 70mm.
It is prototype, does not mean it will ever see sunlight.
Monocular one has waited for years already.
I agree with some comments. I think 10 vi should have been something like Edge 50 level. I don't think it is worth over mark 4.

Darth Caesium, 10 Sep 2024Source?Digital Chat Station said few weeks ago.
That even P70pro+ was doing better than ultra, despite small price difference.
Ultras of oppo, Xiaomi and vivo were all announced in China for less than 1000 dollars.
Sales worse than lame iphone 15, more expensive device

The 5 series were just too expensive and the 10 Series had too many downsides (display and camera quality, performance issues...). Sony should have merged the 5 and 10 Series as a direct but cheaper Compact competitor to Samsung Galaxy S line. And the 1 Series would have stayed top of the line Smartphone rivaling the Ultras and Max Pros from Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi....
At the low end they should have released a bumped up version of the Xperia Ace which is just available in Japan. Something with a decent 1080p no hole in it display and a single capavl

Also releasing a flagship at the end of the year when other brands are releasing the next years version is just sony shooting it's own foot

Could have been, that one of the factor where the fact 5 III outshines the 1 III so badly, that Sony decided to nerfed the 5 series since Mark IV to ensure the 1 series is the above the 5 and buffed the 1 series further. Akin to Samsung with their Galaxy S Plus and S Ultra. S20+ outshines S20 Ultra in certain way, that Samsung decided to nerf S21-23+ so much and buffed the S Ultra since then.

From series to series they start cutting Xperia "5", its sad because the same happen with Compact. Hopefully 5 get all stuff from "1" and they show it asap, Google Pixel dont show big progress maybe in price ;)

I didn't expect the 5 to be released this year and based on the slightly smaller 1 VI, guessed Sony were trying to find a middle-ground for 1 and 5 users, also a big indicator they were dropping the 5 series.
Their phone division has been struggling for a while now, so they also cannot justify the costs of three devices each year. If the 1 continues to be a niche product, I don't expect Sony to be making phones by end of this decade.
It's more profitable to just design and manufacture components for other leading phone brands.
I'm looking at moving away from Sony after 10 years of upgrades. The 1 VI is nice but not so nice I'm desperate to drop my 5 IV for it.
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra has potential to be awesome, and I'll await December for that to be announced. I want a great photophone, which Sony does very well, but Xiaomi are becoming class-leaders, especially with the add-on photo module.
If battery life is good, then I won't hold out for the 1 VII, which is a year away in any case. I'll be dropping Sony probably forever and getting the Xiaomi as my next upgrade.

Darth Caesium, 10 Sep 2024They literally even got rid of the variable telephoto from ... moreI think for them it's either big battery + wireless charging but no telephoto (5 V), big battery + slower wireless + mid telephoto, or smaller battery + variable telephoto but no wireless charging at all (5 III and earlier generations).
To be honest, I do think that with the quite small sensor on the 5 IV with its 2.5x optical zoom, a bigger main sensor with higher resolution should do just fine. But it's such a shame that they couldn't figure out a way to have the best of both worlds, even the 10 VI removed its telephoto from the earlier generation, and the telephoto (while not all that capable), was still one of the features that made the 10 V stand out.
