Sincere advice to Sony:
Make Xperia 10 series fill the void of 5 series. How do you do it? Well, upgrade the processor to an upper midrange processor such as 7 plus gen 3. Put same main camera sensor as 1 series. Keep the plastic build to keep price down, £500 launch price max. It will outclass Pixel A series, Xioami and Samsung midrangers.
Job done, see, it doesn't take much make a successful midranger. We hope you take this advice seriously, Sony! You took our advice to make 1 series to fill in the shoes of 5 series which is welcome, but you didn't to keep the price down which is disappointing. I hope you'll make 1 series and the hopefully improved 10 series more accessible and affordable to your interested buyers worldwide. This will get you more profit which is only better for you!

James.D, 11 Sep 2024I'd be absolutely fine with the 5 V, if only they upda... moreI remember someone said hells would freeze over before sony lengthens their updates but unexpectedly (as they should've) they did with VI it's still possible they might increase it further just to comply with the EU to maybe 5yrs with 3/4 OS updates. Well at least a man dream..

After the fiasco they did with the PS5 Pro, no way I am touching anything created by this company.
Sony is far worse than Apple. At least Apple gives something from time to time.
I already deleted my Sony account, even though I had some online games purchased on my account. That is how much I dislike this company now.
I hope they close the Mobile division. I will celebrate 1 month if this will happen, lol.

YUKI93, 11 Sep 2024Thinking about it, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is almost $50 mor... moreI'd be absolutely fine with the 5 V, if only they updated their update promise. 2 years is just too little, and if they were to keep it on a par with their VI models (3/4 years from launch date, probs not 4/5 but a man can dream), then they would have something that is fairly competitive in the realm of small phones. Xiaomi and Samsung have middling software, although they both have telephotos and are probably the best options (especially the Ximi), and Asus has updates almost as bad as Sony, but with Quality Control that makes Google's QC look like Apple's QC when they were in their hayday. Sony does also have problems, but I'd still be tempted by a 5 V if Sony updated their update promise to allow for the fact that the 5 V is now the makeshift 5 VI.

Ouifuf, 10 Sep 2024Just recommended my friend to get the 5 VI when it launches... moreTbh, I'd still keep with 8 Gen 2 for now. Even with Sony, I can't see any reason to go for 8 Gen 3, especially with the upcoming 8 Gen 4 will sport in-house Oryon CPU.

Thinking about it, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is almost $50 more than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 ($200 vs $160), so it's almost impossible to keep the $999 price tag for Xperia 5 Mk6 with current 8 Gen 3. So it probably make sense to concentrate on Xperia 1 Mk7 with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which is going to be even more expensive than the current 8 Gen 3 (about $250).
Also, compact flagships in general aren't still selling well. Even in Apple land, I keep seeing more iPhone Pro Max instead of iPhone Pro. Heck, even iPhone mini is dead because not many people aren't buying it.

Anonymous, 11 Sep 2024Yup when they start doing things like this it means they ar... moreSony can't just 'stop making phones' they use their phone line for testing camera sensors and communication equipment and even things like the pdt-fp1 data transmitter which is based on the 5V body. If Sony does stop making phones for some reason then every brand from apple - Xiaomi are scr#wed because there won't be a place for sony to test it's sensors and camera tech before they are installed on other devices. People have been saying sony will exit the market all the way back in 2017 but they can't even if they wanted to.

I do still love compact flagship phones. There's a reason why I have Xperia 5 V and iPhone 13 mini in my collection.

Anonymous, 10 Sep 2024Getting closer and closer to become the next LG mobile divi... moreYup when they start doing things like this it means they are winding down and starting to slowly discontinue the range. There won’t be a replacement for the 5 in another year, then the 10 won’t get refreshed, the 1 will be the last and then Sony will stop making phones.

"haha just buy the overpriced garbage from last year with only 1 year of updates left!"
Typical Sony BS. Their entire smartphone department needs to be fired and replaced by competent management.
No, I will not buy an xperia 5 v, I will buy a xiaomi 14 instead.

Honestly, if the 5 converted to a smart FLIP phone with a Snapdragon 8s processor, big battery, triple camera, and being the only flip phone with front speaker(s), expanded memory, and headphone jack with DAC, it would kick tail.

My X6 Pro's camera sucks but it runs circles over Samsung midrangers when it comes to performance, storage speed, screen resolution with Dolby Vision and HDR lmao.

As long as Sony keeps those dinosaurs in charge they won't be getting a lot of sales. But the time is right for change for Sony and their products. The Xperia 1 VI did better because it had a more conventional design, showing that the outdated strategies they have been employing all along weren't their best bet. There's also a huge uproar in Sony right now due to the biggest failure in gaming history, Concord. While changes are coming to their gaming division they might also think to look where else they can make adjustments. Hopefully, they do that. Their phone division needs new blood and ideas.

Well, good news bc they will surely get cheaper.
The 5 V had such a pretty design, but it was a letdown compared to 5 IV.
I think 10 VI should have been a fusion of both lineups in order to improve their midrange offering

Bad for compact phone lovers. For me not a big deal.
