vivo X200 Pro is getting a mini version, new 50 MP camera

25 September 2024
It should sit between the X200 and X200 Pro.

Aierlan, 25 Sep 2024Yeah. I'm probably going to choose between the Oppo Fi... moresounds cool! I hope the Find X8 is an awesome compact phone so we get more competition in that market haha

Due to the absence of Vivo, Oppo and Oneplus in the compact space, Google and Samsung are basically the only ones in that space and Xiaomi's 14 is the only great compact from them imo, the 13 was too overpriced for what it was and the 14 improved so much that I think it's worth it again.

I really think apple should reintroduce the 12 mini design as the next generation SE, with one camera and updated chip. That's all they need to do.

Anonymous, 25 Sep 2024Edge 50 neo is not much bigger. 146mm vs. 154mm

The 50 neo is almost 1cm taller. That's a huge difference.

The reason why iPhone SE sells a lot is because a lot of people just want a decent phone with a small display, and those people are not interested in having 4 or 5 useless cameras on the back

I want a small but thick phone, just like the Nokia 808 Pureview was. I want a single 1 inch sensor, xenon flash, Snaodragon 8gen5 with a small fan for active cooling, and the biggest battery you can fit. Throw in a headphone jack and sd card slot, as well as ability to change battery, and you've got the best phone ever made.
I'm ok with plastic back and no water resistance. I don't take showers with my phone.
If Nokia could do it way back then, others could do it now.

The mini will likely be just 0.02 mm smaller in screen size which is a disappointment

Though 6.3-6.4 inch isn't mini it's good to have a one handable phone but packs flagship features. It sucks that they can't squeeze the 4.3x zoom from the X100 Pro but that's the nature of having small body. Can't place anything bigger in such a small body. Also weird that they didn't just call it the regular X200.

Otherwise I hope this will surprise us in one way or another.

I don't think losing the 1" sensor is a big deal. 1/1.3" seems good enough.

Disclaimer: I don't have a phone that uses an image senesor that large.

Anyhow, there are some benefits to a small image sensor. With a small sensor, it is easier to keep the entire subject in focus. (Xiaomi 13 Ultra solves this by using a variable aperture. At f4.0, it is easier to keep everything in focus even with a 1" sensor). And the camera island will be relatively less thick.

But the downside is, as someone already mentioned, low-light photography can turn out blurry.

Another thing I want to highlight is the focusing method. Sony image sensors usually use 2x2 phase detection in their image sensors (i could be wrong though). However, the IMX989 (1" sensor) has Octa phase detection - which is better and faster. This is pretty evident in Xiaomi 12S Ultra and 13 Ultra - they can focus easily and reliably even in the dark. I wish Sony used this Octa phase detection in more image sensors because it can give us impressive focusing speed. (I know some phones have Laser AF but c'mon...)

It is not mini. Examples of mini phones: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini and Posh Micro X S240. Apple ihpone 12 mini is not mini.

[deleted post]I also like iPhone n Pixel n Samsung naming scheme. I don't like Xiaomi naming scheme. Xiaomi 14 is 6.3" while pro variant is 6.7". It's like the vanila variant feels inferior.

The X200 is rumoured to have a 6.3" screen.
If the "Mini" uses its body, it's NOT mini at all.
It's as Mini as Jabba the Hut is small and slender.

They might as well not bother releasing it 'cause no one will buy it. Those of us who want a normally sized phone (aka sub-6" screens) aren't going to bother with a "Mini" that's enormous. We already have plenty of 6"+ phones on the market. In fact, we ONLY have 6"+ phones. You're not going to be offering anything different or appealing.

Anonymous, 25 Sep 2024They should ask Apple what happened to the iPhone Mini series. What happened?
It sold more units alone than the entire S22 line-up combined.
And more units than any of the Plus models.
And all of that while being cannibalised by the even smaller SE which sold even more units.

                                    That's what happened.
