The title of this news article: "Google is making it easier to protect your data if your phone gets stolen."
The implication: Google is helping you recover your phone if it gets lost or stolen by adding features to keep your phone online and lock down the device.
However, this is what I read the title as: "Google is making it easier to track your device and get your personal data by using AI to do it, so you will feel safer knowing a big corporation is watching you all the time."
I'm gonna be a bit bold and ask a controversial question, and then I'm gonna let people discuss it amongst themselves - Does anyone anymore ever consider rehab programs that could help the thieves not steal, or are we still just trying to keep ourselves in insulated little safety bubbles while the world is filled with crime? IMHO, this is only keeping innocent people feeling innocent, not actually solving the problem.
