After iPhones, Indonesia also bans sales of Google Pixel phones

01 November 2024
The reason is the same – phones need to have 40% local content.

Decentralize everything cause it will improve competition and product quality.
Or else just do what you all are doing.
Support A team or B team and enjoy the match.

As long as you have samsung that is one of the big companies they'll be fine. Apple and Google products almost only has feature that benefits on the Western side.

I think the next move is that smartphones have to be certified halal over there. LOL.

Their population is big, but Indonesia's average income per person is just $4180 according to The Economist. (Wikipedia has less useful estimates from the future in 2025)

Is the average person there really going to spend between 3 and 6 months of their income on a phone?

Consumer's actually won't be much affected, only inconvenienced having to buy the phone from Singapore or Malaysia. Meanwhile the distributors are losing potential profits being unable to sell the phone.

The conglomerates owning the distributors will probably try to lobby the lawmakers, just like how they got the IMEI law passed. A compromise will be made.

Maybe Scamsung should face a ban in North America for selling their horrible, super-slow garbage at higher prices with misleading advertising. For $350 you can still buy a brand new, factory-sealed vanilla Pixel 7, which is an infinitely better purchase than any low-end Scamsung.

It is fully because these companies do not follow rules in the country, thus being punished as such. Those who comply would not face such ban. Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo etc have no problem with local laws, only American companies have such problem because they are arrogant. One of Tte benefits of following local rules here is the locals here can buy phones at cheaper price. Samsung phones here are cheaper than in US or any neighbouring countries.

Apple sell their phones in Indonesia.
So, they may want to give attention to it. And as far as I know, they only lack about 10% of their obligation. So not a big deal.
Google however, they don't even sell phones in Indonesia. Ban us? Yeah .. please do. Like we give a sh*t.
