Anonymous, 06 Dec 2024Oled power consumption is a myth and fake advertising in it... moreThe contrast alone is worth it. Oled's brightness has come a long way as well, Pixel 9 series can hit 1300 manually and 2300 in auto mode, which is more than enough. Colors have always been better on OLEDs

Anonymous, 06 Dec 2024Bruh, it's even worse than TN and VA panels. what a joke, TN and VA is the worst panel to exist. would you rather have that type of screen than IPS..

Artem S. Tashkinov, 06 Dec 2024OLED is leaps and bounds better in: * Dynamic range *... moreOled power consumption is a myth and fake advertising in its early days. They actually consume more power unless you keep your two thirds of your oled black all the time. Which is where the bogus claims come from.

              LCD is better in:
              - brightness
              - color
              - price
              - burn in / reliability.

              OLED has better:
              - respone time
              - contrast
              - viewing angle

Oled is barely better than lcd in most case secenarios. Imo not worth the loss in reliabilty and price as LCD newer technology come close to its performance.
LCD biggest problem right now is samsung. They have big monopoly in the market and stopped selling LCD.

Anonymous, 06 Dec 2024A better solution is to just use IPS LCD. Bruh, it's even worse than TN and VA panels.

Divergent, 06 Dec 2024It's not limited to flagships nowadays. Only low end p... morePlanned obsolescence of what? I have a near-perfect OLED-based OnePlus 6 with zero screen issues after using it for seven years.

It stopped receiving updates three years ago, otherwise it's good as new.

I'm not sure what "degradation" you're talking about either. Don't use your OLED screen at 100% brightness for long periods of time. That's it.

Anonymous, 06 Dec 2024You should have another asterisk next to power consumption ... moreAMOLED panels offer brighter brightness than any IPS panel in existence. Of course, this results in higher power consumption. Learn how IPS works and why it's dimmer than OLED.

                      Your claim is squarely invalid.

potato4k, 06 Dec 2024Lifetime warranty? Damn, now that's what I call market... moreHow is it BOEs fault?

OnePlus primarily used Samsung OLED screens before the OnePlus 12, far less reported issues with BOE as it currently stands, not saying there are none, there always will be with OLEDs in particular but BOEs short track record with OnePlus is not bad at all.

not only they wanted higher contrast and vibrance, they wanted always on display and under display fingerprint scanner as well.

Just look how many people wanting their laptops to be use oled screen as well (which are more prone to burn in due to the static UI and icons).

potato4k, 06 Dec 2024Lifetime warranty? Damn, now that's what I call market... moresamsung either focuses on quantity over quality. no surprise that many samsung phones suffer from green line issue. even a software update adds green line as a feature.

DeepIn2U, 06 Dec 2024A warranty this grandiose is going to be immensely costly!!... moreWe will see how the would implement it.
For a smartphone, the most expensive part is the SoC. Samsung panels are expensive, but OnePlus uses BOE panels, which are so cheap that even cheapskate Apple keeps trying to use them despite BOE cheated them before. And it's not like all their phones will get the green line issue. Most people with one probably already trade off the phone and got a new one. So in reality, the cost is probably not that huge as those requiring replacement would not be that many. Oneplus marketshare is not that big to begin with. Also, I'm sure OnePlus would have some stipulation like only the original owner with an original sales receipt can get a replacement.

you have to suffer, 06 Dec 2024well yes all flagships use amoled, there are few flagships ... moreIt's not limited to flagships nowadays. Only low end phones come with LCD's these days. It's really hard to find a good midrange phone with LCD right now. Planned obsolescence at it's peak.

well people, do you know why rugged phones use LCD? how many were released this year with AMOLED? Year after year, LCDs have also improved recently, reaching above 600 nits.

Lifetime warranty? Damn, now that's what I call market disruption. Sure, it's probably 99% BOE's fault, but gotta give ONEPlus the credit if they stand by that lifetime warranty. Now I really want a OnePlus phone.

So Samsung, what are you going to do? Unlike OnePlus, you make your own panels. Can you stand by the quality of your own panel and do the same?
