Juraj, 30 Dec 2024Finally! They should have done this 10 years ago. It'... moreyou still need multiple cables and multiple power bricks in your home, or you have only one cable in your house/car/workplace/parents and fiancee home/purse or backpack.

I have 3 on my home desk, 2 at work, 1 on bedside, 2 in car, 4 around other people home, 1 long and 1 short in my man bag. Oh but they are all type-c connectors now... so all the older cables are e-waste in one day.

JimmyTheGreatest, 30 Dec 2024I wished the EU banned all the uninstallable bloatware. Not... moreEurope is ignorant, they are being annoying towards Apple, but meanwhile Google and other brands can make what they want, Google is using people data and voice recordings in calls to earn money and bloat internet with ads (it is worse than 90'- 2000 internet), Microsoft Windows with spyware as features, Android with bloatwares, malwares, only 1-2years of updates for the vast majority of the brands, bad unsafe sideloading, even phone carriers are gatekeeping the SMS system even if smartphones already have RCS.

    Europe... it knows nothing.

Finally! They should have done this 10 years ago.
It's so comfortable to charge all devices using a single cable.

Note that those huge chargers with 50W+ power will only reduce lifetime of your battery and it's better to charge your devices slowly - for example using USB port on PC (or monitor) over night. It's also much safer since battery doesn't heat up during slow charge.

Rolly Ghiz, 30 Dec 2024Exactly, as it doesn't even reduce the e-waste they... moretotally agree, and i want to add also that is not about using a single cable, i need to use many type c cables for all the devices, because having only one is limiting and i charge different devices in different places. In fact now i have new cables and new accessories because they changed the connector... oh you Europe, what we can do with you?

Instead of forcing to remove chargers maybe it was better to force them make removable batteries because its literally the main reason why theres so much of an E-Waste?

Vin Aigre, 30 Dec 2024This sentence is a joke? The Union has once again proven... moreThey want backdoors, unsafe sideloading, making no differences between devices so no free choice and free will for the consumer. "One cable for all" but there years they changed from mini-usb to micro-usb to type-C, and the next technology will make type-C obsolete? maybe even introducing port-less devices? but for now so much e-waste.

At least type-c connector is not like that awful micro-usb.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2024While I can agree with USB-C, but no charger in the box, re... moreExactly, as it doesn't even reduce the e-waste they're trying to mitigate.
I buy an Iphone today, get their charger, buy a Samsung to use as a secondary phone, then buy another one cause the Samsung requires higher rated PD chargers, even if I'm not getting it from their sites.
Then I decide to get an Asus to replace my Iphone and would to get another one, preferably theirs cause it charges at an even faster rate.
              It just doesn't make sense

                This sentence is a joke?

The Union has once again proven itself as an organization that takes the side of its citizens and not the corporations.

If the EU would take the side of its citizens they would listen them instead of following their own agenda.

If the EU *REALLY* cared about "e-waste", they'd mandate the headphone jack back into all devices.
First because there's no superior solution, and second because wireless earbuds have a much shorter lifespan, generate therefore a ton more e-waste due to the batteries, and those batteries production pollute a lot more in their manufacturing process.

                  But this isn't about e-waste.
It's about forcing people to buy things separately so that the EU can charge VAT over those purchases.

Akinaro, 30 Dec 2024Yeah one union... One charger... Many unwelcome people... O... moreDamn got I am from Eastern Europe without thoose unwelcome people. But I lived in Sweden for 4 years so I have some experience.

All this "E-Waste" stance & "Championing" the consumer BUT,

NOTHING in terms of a actual waste or recycling at all?

                      1. Mandate should've also forced manufacturers to recollect & replace all legacy chargers & cables that consumers have at NO cost either in store or shipping.
^ that would heavily reduce existing e- waste NOT preventative over years into the future!

                      2. Mandate manufacturers to have no cost battery replacement or recycling at retail stores or mail- in with monitored recycling actions, with random checks and HEAVY FINES & BOOSTED TARIFF penalties!!
                      ^ THAT friends moves mountains!!

Such this would have an immediate impact of e waste!!
                      Again, immediate!!

Yeah one union... One charger... Many unwelcome people... One main goal: get EU politics more money

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2024Continue charging your phone with type a or micro-usb. Gott... morethe chinese phones with usb A brick are around 80-120W

The next thing EU should require is that all new smartphones, tablets and PCs have expandable storage via SD/MicroSD slot, to allow customers the option to buy lower storage option devices without eventually forcing them to buy expensive subscription cloud storage.

Any manufacturer that doesn’t comply with the said requirement cannot be sold in the EU.

It's not like every device has the same configuration, which means the customer has to pay extra to get the appropriate charging brick for their device.

Hikari, 30 Dec 2024They already started. some oneplus and xiaomi phones ship w... moreNot only them, also some Honor, eg Magic V3, some vivo, eg V40 series, some realme too, eg GT6 series and GT7, Oppo with Reno 11 and 12 series. In fact, the first company to stop repackaging the adapter in the packaging was Tecno. In the beging of 2024. They themselves said that the EU ordered them to remove the adapter from the packaging.
