                      In terms of performance per watt, the small cores perform worse than the mid cores.
                      And because of improvement of fab, the mid cores in low frequency can now have replace the small cores for the idling jobs.
                      That's why both Qualcomm and MediaTek abandoned the small cores.

                            They'll do this thing: (7-core) when buying 12/256 version and (8-core) when buying 16/512 version of the device

In 90% of situations, the phone is going to be boosting to middle cores anyways. Just swiping or playing animations, and most phones already boost mid cores to 2GHz.

                                Even then I suppose most of the hardware units in M Oryon can be hibernated to save energy on the fly.

                                    So I missed the release of the SD 8 elite. So it seems that they have ditched the efficiency cores? So we're throwing away all for the efficiency gains with these new fabrication processes by making more and more powerful (read: power hungry) cores, to make benchmarks look better and better while never really being able to realize that power in any meaningful way?

                                      Likely a binned chip.

                                        Samsung will use,rename it for some fake marketing AI, fake core count in system, call it innovation and charge extra 200 euros for it in europe.
