Is Samsung thinking of ditching the S Pen in future Galaxy S Ultras?

We hope not but it sure looks like it.

I would take a 6000mAh battery over the S-Pen without hesitation.

Probably, it felt like it was forced for the s25 ultra after they added qi 2. they didn't even wanna bother to engineer a new mechanism or workaround for it, which is fair that costs more money and all but probably for the sake of even saving up, it'll be gone by the next year/few years.

Minu, 03 Feb 2025This is none other than the slow death of Samsung, and that... moreIdk man, till the Note9 at least, Samsung was without a doubt making the best phones on the market overall in terms of features/quality, at least imo. And the S10+ was the last perfect Samsung, it just had not flaws if you add the Microsd card and the headphone jack into the equation alongside the lens selection.

The downfall began with the Note10 series imo and it became noticeable with the S22 series. At least with the s20 series they were being daring and tried new things, the s22 series onwards was just safe for the sake of being safe and it's not like they made the best phones either. For example, the S22U was unanimously considered at best "good" due to the 8 Gen 1 sapping the battery and overheating and the cameras not being THAT great. But it was still overall the best considering the lens selection and the X80 Pro came close but had a far inferior super-telephoto and the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra/12S Ultra was/were the only ones imo which were genuinely better but kinda fell short due to the lack of a mid-range telephoto. They fixed that with the 13 Ultra and so, like, 2023 onwards, Samsung was just easily inferior to Xiaomi in terms of cameras. Oppo and Vivo caught up as well with the Find X6 Pro and the X90 Pro+.

That's just my two cents, I think Samsung downfall was somewhat acceptable till the S22 U as they were still the best around, even if only barely. S23 onwards they just let it all go.

Only 1% may be using it regularly, but a lot of people might have bought an ultra because of S-pen. It is one of those "I don't need it, but want it anyway" thing. They will definitely lose some sales because of this, whether they will attribute those to the removal of S pen is another story.

The S-Pen is completely useless to me, I occasionally remember it exists and scribble on the screen.

It should be a separate accessory for those who are interested.

Having said that, I don't want Samsung to remove the feature. The Galaxy S Ultra is supposed to be the phone that has everything, including the kitchen sink.

If I wanted a slab phone I'd just get a tablet instead. To me, smartphones are all about convenience, use on the fly, portability, and one-handed use (preferably, smaller than 150mm tall). For all other purposes (casually browsing at home, reading the news, etc.), you can use tablets, chromebooks, laptops, PCs, MACs etc. Besides, Samsung and Motorola offer Dex and Ready For respectively, which allow you to use any other screen you have to consume content (even a 60" TV if that's what you need).

I bought a Xiaomi budget phone after always owning Samsung budget/midrange phones, and this was a huuuuuge OS downgrade. I don't trust Chinese os anymore. At least not Xiaomi, OnePlus seems to be good quality, I think. Samsung is still the most reliable, has the best OS and the best screens, but they're abusing it and getting greedier every year, just like Apple. Except imo iOS is a terrible system, but that's just my opinion.

Whether it's a duopoly or not, given that low end Androids have been discontinued for the most part, those grey market phones have a chance to survive because of the prominent ODM business. So there's a very low chance one might get a dud, unless it's some shady marketplace.

According to Samsung only 1% of owners use their S-pen bluetooth, so they removed it as apparently nobody uses them.... says who?.
If Samsunng removing S-pen bluetooth but actually add some meaningful improvements then it may be tolerated such as compensated with bigger battery to 6000Mah otherwise what have we users gain when we paid Premium dollar for flagships, absolutely nothing it is a Downgrade for Samsung just to save a few dollars; instead they can expect huge backlash and loose more sales and profits for their callous decisions.....as usual.
By same reasoning if Samsung were to do a study then I bet 99.5% of users are careful and dared not dunk or use their phone in water or anywhere near it if possible (despite IP68 rating); even now when other latest flagships are now more water resistant than ever with IP69 rating, most people never get their phones anywhere near water.
Since I suspect only 0.01% of users would use their phone in water there is no need for IP69 Rating ever given IP68 is already overkill according to Samsung, so why not save save a few more dollars and removed all IP rating alltogether and have no water resistance rating .....after all most people dont use their phone in water anyway, and only a small percentage of IP68 rated phones are water damaged anyway, so removing it must be justified....right? SSSUPER INTELLIGENT SAMMY!

The S pen is still a USP of the Ultra line. It's not mainly about how many people use is actively on a regularly basis but how many find it to be a useful feature?
It's like with all the high class SUVs with extreme off-road features but just a fraction of the buyers go off-road with their 150k € Porsche Cayenne or AMG G-Wagon. But they COULD if they want to.
Same applies to the s pen. If I want I could be productive. The pen adds value to the product.
