The full market in Q4 2024 was at 75 million smartphone shipments, growing 5.3% YoY. This was the market's fourth consecutive quarter showing YoY growth. For the full year 2024, shipments were 271.4 million, up 3.7% compared to 2023. With the introduction of smartphone subsidies this year, the growth should continue.

Oh, by the way, Iphones are actually cheaper in China than in the US. You make no sense. Try reading. Midwit. Maybe if you read an article you can raise the average iq. lol

jiyen235, 07 Feb 2025Apple's phones are cheapest in America, they have nice... moreApple does have high market share in China though despite being expensive there. They were number 2 after all despite only having phones in the higher priced bracket and despite competition from every major brand apart from Google. Actually, in the large cities I would be confident that they have the highest market share. It's outside the tier 1 and tier 2 cities where Vivo make most of their sales. It would be interesting to see sales stats for different cities and regions in China. Apple's market share in tier 1 cities is definitely very high but second place overall in the largest global market with the most competition is still very strong.

Yes there are cheap phones with issues but as someone who has direct contact with one of the biggest mobile carriers local repair shop I can tell you that Samsung is not all that cracked up to be... not even Apple is what it was years ago.
Samsung is particularly bad at mid or low end models, notably worse then say Honor, Oppo or Huawei. Xiaomi has a lot of issues with low end models as well and problems with software bugs, Motorola(Lenovo/Catarpillar) is somewhat better but they are down hill as well.

Availability is key, not just because people prefer to buy locally instead of online, but also because of carrier compatibility.

The article you linked is from 2022 during covid. It's to provide subsidies to ordinary people to help boost the economy so the biggest buyer isnt the government as you claim. The subsidies were removed long ago after lockdown ended.

"in China people could buy any phone, yet vivo outsells even Apple". it isn't baffling or even interesting. the government is offering money to customers to buy Chinese vivo and huawei, but not Apple or Samsung. This doesn't take in to account national pride to buy local nor the social pressure to do so. I have solved this most interesting mystery for you. You're welcome !
