The article literally written "which was clearly influenced by Samsung's moves."
So, Samsung is officially confirmed as the inspirational market leader in long software support. Great inspiration for many chinese brand.

PureOS, 17 Feb 2025That 3 years of updates for 150€ phone is more than fair.Galaxy A16 - 160EUR, getting 6 updates...I get what you mean, years ago, getting ANY updates on a 150EUR device was amazing, but right now, 3 years is the minimum you could possibly offer to be in the market I feel.
Not going to straight up call them bad for it, but not going to applaud them for it either.

Security updates are the most important anyways.
The OS number change dont change much and wont be threat that app support ends for next 6-7 years and they do them anyways every after like 3-4 months

"On the other hand, the international Redmi Note 14 5G is less fortunate, for reasons we don't quite understand"
Imo, they want to compete with Transsion in because last year Transsion dominate $150 price range. No UW, but a longer software support and faster chipset (Snapdragon 685 in Redmi Note 13 4G vs G99)

Well, let's see if they can even deliver that much. Hopefully it won't slow down the already not so fast phone too much.
Plus this device launched with Android 14, when it should've launched with Android 15, so really that's just 3 years of OS updates.

I honestly wouldn't recommend Xiaomi products, they are the manufacturers with the most planned obsolescence. I had a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro, it turned off out of the blue in just two years, the card had been damaged. My friend bought some new Redmi Buds 4 Pro, out of the blue they sound very low, one more than the other, she had to buy others. I don't recommend Xiaomi because of my bad experience in general.

Great strategy to give your 4G model more software updates because people buying it would most likely update soon to a 5G phone. It's planned obsolescence and opportunitistic behavior at its most evident.

Anonymous, 17 Feb 20254G model getting more updates than the 5G one? Excuse me wut?Maybe because they will sell more of the 4G variant. Still... Weird strategy because software is the same 99%.
