Sony Xperia 1 VII to get Exmor T sensors for all cameras

jiyen235, 20 Feb 2025as long as it's still not a phone with a larger than 1... moreYour analogy is like saying someone should get Xiaomi SU7 Ultra instead of Porsche 911 GT3 Touring to a gasoline-powered car enthusiast who loved the Flat 6 Naturally Aspirated engines and a 6-speed manual of 911 GT3 Touring that output lesser power compared to electric battery and 1-speed automatic of SU7 Ultra, when the target markets aren't even the same.
You may think 3.5mm headphone jack, MicroSDXC, or camera button of Xperia "useless" just like saying F6 NA engine of 911 GT3 sucked compared to X200 Pro's camera capabilities or Xiaomi SU7 Ultra's bursts of power, but if you going to convince to someone who needed the feature of MicroSDXC card slot + 3.5mm jack or F6 NA engine + 6-speed manual above camera capabilities and burst of instant power, that wouldn't work. You need to consider that the feature of either Xperia or Porsche is already near extinction and considered "dying breed" due to the current situation shifting of respective markets to other things that may not benefit those who searched MicroSDXC/Flat 6 engine, and forcing someone to get another "better product" that is not suitable for their taste, will make everything even bleaker for whose seeks option outside those two when they're gone.

Glenico353, 20 Feb 2025A 3.5mm audio jack is practically useless if you care about... moreCalling a 3.5mm headphone jack useless becuase of its sound quality? Are you mad or what? There are reasons why Sony decided to reinstate that feature since 1 II after temporarily removing it from XZ2/XZ3/OG Xperia 1, or even gaming phones, and other scale of electronic sectors outside smartphone that needed this. Sound quality of headphone jack able to sustain better than TWS as it is wired, not wireless connected. Be for real!

Anonymous, 20 Feb 2025Could be the last of it's kind. Just hate how Redmagic... more"Just hate how Redmagic and ROG had the right idea of keeping wired audio (still best for gaming) but removing expandable storage options for their top end models."
Both ROG and RedMagic never had MicroSDXC card support from the both of the series was born 7 years ago. Asus did have MicroSDXC card support only in the Zenfone series, and even that, only up to Zenfone 8 Flip (2021). After that, they ditched it totally with Notification LED (in Zenfone series only). The only gaming phone to ever had MicroSDXC card support were the Razer Phone 1 (2017) and Razer Phone 2 (2018), and neither of them had 3.5mm jack though.

All Exmor T, that's all I'm waiting for. The 1VI is an excellent device already, probably the best I've ever used. If they improve on that, they'll have a beast of a phone

S I R E, 20 Feb 2025I'm not sure if the Red Magic line ever had a Micro SD... moreI already checked GSMArena's database, and there is no Red Magic line up has MicroSDXC card slot at all, not even the inaugural Red Magic from 2018 had one. The only gaming phone to ever had MicroSDXC card slot support AFAIK are the both Razer Phone 1 and 2.

Anonymous, 20 Feb 2025"Sony Xperia 1 VII to get Exmor T sensors for all came... moreSony hasn't used any 720p+ HD+ display since Xperia Ace is currently on halt, then no Sony flagship used below 1080p FHD+ display since Xperia XZ2 Compact (2018) (the last Sony flagship to use below 1080p was XZ1 Compact of 2017),
And they also haven't touched below 720p display since Xperia E4g (2015) (starting with Xperia E5 of 2016, all Xperia have at least 720p display), and both Mark VI series have 1080p+ display on their sleeves (tho different aspect ratio, 1 VI is 19.5:9, 10 VI is cinematic 21:9), and they wouldn't downgrade the display resolution of their own flagship below 10 VI at all, that would be absurd.
Even when XA2 was sporting a FHD display for the first time ever, an up from XA1's 720p display, XZ2 Compact also got a bumped of its resolution to FHD+ from XZ1C's HD 720p display. So this comment is sarcasm or satire at best.

Another Xperia rumour article is back, the favourite place to argue 24/7 on this site, and as expected, the comment is already crowded as fast as possible
Anyway, this could be the first solid rumour about Xperia 1 VII, which resonated the previous long rumour that 1 VII will use Exmor T sensors on all rear cameras to replace long-standing Exmor RS they have been using since Xperia Z days (the type of Exmor itself, not the equipped sensors itself, and the selfie cam could be reserved later series as it is not mentioned), considering Sony Xperia is the one of, if not the least reliable rumours in smartphone world as it always changed the most until last minute. One day it say A, later day it could be B, and so on.
Though, I'm wondering which Sony Exmor T/Lytia sensors those are currently non-QB sensor that matched that description based on that rumour to replace the IMX563 1/2.55" Ultrawide sensor and IMX650 1/3.5" continuous telephoto optical zoom sensor? I think this one subpart that will be needing to wait until later date, because it happened the same with 1 IV and 1 VI rumours where the sensors to be applied are swirling around until last minute.

jiyen235, 20 Feb 2025sure bud. keep eating up the marketing stuff. It is not marketing. It has been tested.
Imx888 has 80% of FWC compared to Type 1.0.
When imx888 is barely more than 40% of Type 1.0 size.
Its FWC is 2x more than imx789 , that has exactly same specs ( 4,3:3 shape , 52mp total with 48mp effective).
Exmor T only needs to be 1/1.28" to match Lyt900.
Less space used, less voltage, less heat, thinner bump.
Exmor RS has first layer with 50% pixel area + 50% logic layer.
Moving logic layer beneath, now surface is only for pixels.
Photodiodes are taller compared to exmor RS. Electronic microscopy was done to show extructure.
Xiaominions e scamsungers are jealous their phones with have never have it.

Anonymous, 20 Feb 2025If Sony wants to be competitive, it has to provides at leas... moreMobile division is a niche market for Sony, their main source of income is camera sensors sold by millions to top mobile brands of the market and PlayStation consoles.
It's not necessarily a bad thing that Sony hasn't made smartphone sales their main source of income. Not caring about market/sales is what led to Sony phones retaining the quality and uniqueness other phones lack, such as headphone jack, microSD slot, front facing stereo, no notch, IP65 etc that conscious customers care about.
Other brands, who rely heavily on smartphone sales for income has gone too far, to the point of making every decision based on maximizing profits, even at the great expenses of level and quality that conscious customers care about. That's why yesterday it was microSD slot, today headphone jack, tomorrow buttons and then USB C.
Unfortunately for customers though, since Sony feels no competition, it knows people who really want those features have no choice but to get an Xperia no matter what the price is.
My suggestion is to buy this phone in 2026 when price will be affordable. For now get the Xperia 5 V.
