Anonymous, 25 Feb 2025Some people (or me) just prefer depressing (or, wait for it... morethere's nothing wrong with having a preference, being locked into that without any option of switching is the issue. If Google or Samsung had built in styles like "natural" (what i want) or "neutral" (what you want) then we'd both be happy. That's my point. We should get both. These brands brag about software yet dont give us much in terms of software.
So we essentially dont get either amazing hardware or amazing software on Google or Samsung phones.
Oh and you can easily tune down the saturation on a Vivo, you can easily go to Master Mode on Oppo and you can also just easily switch to Leica Authentic on Xiaomi if that's what you want. That's what i was talking about, choice.
Btw, you're forgetting what "natural" means. Natural means taking a photo of the real world as it is. Google and Samsung are NOT natural. For instance, if it's an evening shot, the sun will be setting down and the lighting will be warm. Google and Samsung will correct the white balance so that instead of the scene being lit up by the beautiful warm light of the sun, it feels like the scene is lit up by white office led lights. Absolutely lifeless and depressing stuff. Yeah you can tweak white balance later but that's one more step for no reason, additionally if you input a changed white balance beforehand then let's say if you warm up the color temperature during sunset then when the scene has cold lighting, it'll look too warm.

I just noticed that the source mentions the size of the effective lens diameter of the periscope camera: 9.4mm , so it's slightly smaller than the current record (9.89mm Honor Magic7 RSR) and this means that the field of view is actually slightly wider than 100mm: Should be roughly 92.5mm

Xiaomi 15 Ultra will definitely have slightly better zoom than Vivo x200 Ultra 100mm versus 85mm, but Vivo will have significantly better ultrawide (LYT-818 1/1,28'' vs JN5 1/2,76'' in Xiaomi), better video - Vivo wants to shine with it and better selfie camera (we already saw selfie photo made by Xiaomi 15 Ultra 32mp camera and it was pretty average). I would not say Xiaomi must be better in overall, but it will be matter of preference who uses phone for videos/ultrawide or for longer zoom more.
In my opinion, Oppo find X8 Ultra can be most balanced from these three, large all 4 cameras, from ultrawide to 6x zoom.

Darth Caesium, 25 Feb 2025Well, I'm not so knowledgeable on RAWs, so I don'... moreI think what they get wrong is it's better to have too much raw than too little even if it needs to be tonemapped to smaller depth like 8-, 10- or 12-bit.

vik457, 25 Feb 2025Do you know where that commenter above is wrong?Well, I'm not so knowledgeable on RAWs, so I don't know if Xiaomi has fake RAWs like the commenter claims they do. If that claim is true, though, then he's correct that you can't take advantage of the 14-bit colour information, as JPEG really is limited to 8-bit colour (besides through hacky implementations like Google's Ultra HDR — never understood why they didn't just adopt JPEG XL instead)
